Hey everyone,
I wanted to say a few words in light of the gay marriage thread.
Pretty much any topic is fair game on these forums so long as it's not violating the Community Guidelines. That's what the NWR forum is for an in any case, we've had to lock threads on topics which WERE topical to this site because they are marriage related.
Please keep in mind when participating in these types of topics in the future that:
1. Often the most heated discussions come down to topics rooted in deep personal beliefs. Though you may disagree with another's personal beliefs the likelihood that you can change their mind about it is really slim to none. Arguing a point to try to convince a change of viewpoint in this instance is pretty futile.
2. If you find yourself responding to a particular poster in an increasingly heated manner and you feel they are violating our site Guidelines, flag it and walk away. Don't continue to participate if you are getting more and more angry, because a) see number 1 above and b) it will simply escalate the situation and others will feel compelled to jump in and the thread will get closed.
3. It's OK for someone to disagree with you! It doesn't imply a rejection or insult to you as a person, it's about the issue -- not you. :)
Hope these tips can help us in the future with these "hot topics". Please post here or PM if you have questions, comments, etc.
Best,
-Lori
