Poll : BM dresses

My bridesmaids want to surprise me and choose their dress without telling me or me knowing or whatever...

question : did you choose or did you do a selection of dresses or did the BM surprise you?

I chose the dresses and fortunately all my girls loved my choice. I had a particular vision in mind and I wouldn't have been comfortable allowing other people to choose and then be surprised after they got it. If I hated it, it would be too late to change it unless I'd be willing to pay for them to get a second dress. Kwim? Why do your bridesmaids want to surprise you? It isn't their wedding and I don't think they should be trying to make these type of decisions for YOUR big day. I'd tell them no.

I chose the dress... it seemed like everyone liked it, and it was the one that was my favorite of everything I'd seen! I don't think I could've handled a surprise dress lol.

I definitely wouldn't do a suprise BM dress..what if it doesn't fit your theme or wedding ideas? Maybe chose 3 or 4 that you like and then have them take a vote. I agree with SunnyD - it's your day and your decision!

I chose a selection of dresses for the girls to try on and decide on their own. It was the same length from the same designer.

Unless you plan on an eccelctic feel for your wedding, I would give them some guidelines. I wouldn't want to be surprised. I trust my girls would pick beautiful dresses but I also had a specific vision for me and my girls. :)

I chose the style and colour and luckily, my MOH/BMs were totally okay with my choice!

I chose the dress.  I don't like those type of surprises. Also I wanted to chose everything.  I worked the dresses based on the ladies sizes and how comfortable they would feel in the dress.  I think all in all they will love the dress I chose for them.

ok so it seems I'm not crazy to be a bit mad at them not letting me choose...

This whole story of dresses is driving me crazy!! I wanted to talked with them few months ago, it was to early and then they just said "we take care of that don't worry" and now they are like we are choosing the dress and then we let you know if we need you to make us some necklace to go with

You are NOT crazy for being upset at that.  You should definitely have a say in what their dresses look like.  For my wedding I chose the designer, fabric and color and they chose the style.

I was in one wedding where the bride just gave us a theme and we chose the dress.  It ended up looking beautiful, but it wasn't what the bride asked for.  In the end she was really happy with the look but again, it wasn't what she had imagined.  She asked us to wear pastel colored knee-length dresses and we all wore jewel-colored dresses.  Somehow we all chose the same three colors so it looked really beautiful. I let the girls decide but I had final say. I dont dig surprises (in fact my shower being a surprise is KILLING ME!) So I wouldn't like that at all.
