Just end up serving the whole cake to your guest and re-create a small cake for your 1st year anniversary. It will one guarantee the freshness and quality of taste and two it will avoid all mind questions if it is "good" or "bad". Also - prevents any potential upset stomachs.

ummmm - my parents kept part of their cake & for the longest time, i would pester my parents to just throw it away...well my 'rents are packrats = it's still in the freezer - and my mom passed away a few years ago, so now i dont want to toss it...

uuuhh - i dont think we're gonna save our cake - it wont travel well from hawaii to cali--and we'll probably eat it anyway before the day is over! hahaha oink oink oink!

I'm not keen on eating year-old cake. I think we'll do what my sister did, and just get a little cake from the same bakery (or maybe from the cake maker we couldn't quite afford for the larger wedding cake...) on our anniversary, if anything. (We're not big anniversary celebraters.)

we saved ours. FI was so adamant about saving it. It's one of their family tradition. He promised it won't be moldy since his brother got married a few years back and saved the top layer of their cake. Anyhow, worse to worst I can always ask the bakeshop to re-create it for our anniv:-)

i'm wondering - where did this tradition start and what is the significance of it - other than make sure to have m.o.m. in the medicine cabinet???

We are serving all of our cake. We will have the same lady make a cake for us on our aniversary.

I have a food saver, so I saved one for my friend. I do not know how that one turned out, as their anniversary is tomorrow!

However, I have heard from two friends, whose cakes were not moldy. Not to get too graphic, but each reported that it tasted good, but they ended up spending several days on the toilet! I am going to get a small cake remade for our anniversary.
