What do you plan on doing for your wedding that reflects your background/culture?

We're having a western ceremony, so no tea ceremony and no japanese ceremony. The one traditional/cultural thing we'll be doing is wearing a traditional outfit at the reception. In my case it'll be a cheongsam and fi may wear a men's japanese wedding outfit (male kimono..lol).

We're also having a western ceremony. I'll be changing into a qi pao/cheongsam during the reception and we will have some lion dancers perform for good luck.

We are going full out for our wedding since FI is Filipino I would love to make his mother happy by having a fully Filipino wedding. Plus he was married previously and they did everything her way (excuse my slightly annoyed tone) which means that they didn't have a Catholic ceremony or incorporate anything regarding either ethnicity. We are both Catholic so it only makes since for us to carry out the traditional mass with western formal wear, but he will be donning a barong at the reception.

We are doing a full Filipino Catholic wedding ceremony, with the older generations wearing Filipina clothing/barongs and the younger generations wearing black tie formal wear. We're incorporating the Dutch element by making sure there is plenty of alcoholic drinks (open bar). ;)

rinamae - LOL @ the open bar......

Also wanted to mention that we're doing a mix of hors d'ouvres to reflect our background..so...we have spring rolls...either tempura or gyoza...quiches....and for our russian bg..maybe cabbage rolls? no no..j/k

I think we are integrating "regions" more than cultures.  He is from the south (SC) so we are going to do the causal southern cooking (I love it)! Fried Chx, pulled pork, macc and chz, cornbread..etc lol, gettign huungry thinking about it.  My family is from the west coast and white/mexican so we will definately have to make sure that is included (probably just with music though) lol, I have to teach him how to dance to some cumbias! YAY! lol

YUM mandimcc I want to come to your reception ;)

There aren't any distinctive Australian traditions according to FI, aside from the usual western ones. . . we'll be doing some Filipino traditions during the ceremony, and FI may wear a barong tagalog (traditional Filipino wear) to the reception.

Oh, for our favors we'd like to give one Filipino treat and one Australian treat!

We're having a Filipino Catholic ceremony and also hiring a local Filipino dance troupe to perform at our reception in order to help introduce FI's family/friends into Filipino culture.  (They're flying in from Europe and don't know much about "my people".  Lol.)

In terms of FI's German traditions, we are having imported German beer, marzipan from his hometown as favors, and a traditional party before the wedding called "Polterabend" where we get to break plates and stuff for luck!

We are having a modern American wedding with Asian/Chinese flairs:

- cherry blossom invitation, cake, and some fake cherry blossom branches for decoration

- red paper lanterns

- some Chinese & Indonesian music during dinner

- red shoes (red is a good, lucky color in Chinese culture), red bridesmaid dresses
