Is your FI/FH Asian too?

If yes - is he the same ethnicity as you are?

If not the same ethnicity or not Asian did you combine any traditions from both of your backgrounds?

Is your FI/FH Asian too? Yup - my FI is half Japanese and half white.

If yes - is he the same ethnicity as you are? Nope.

If not the same ethnicity or not Asian did you combine any traditions from both of your backgrounds? Not really...we're doing a western ceremony but nothing really Chinese or Japanese...I'm having a hard time finding ways to be "respectful" of all the cultures/ethnicities. I'm Chinese, FI is half Japanese a quarter British and a quarter Russian. I guess we're trying to keep things simple w/just a western ceremony and reception...

If yes - is he the same ethnicity as you are? Nope.  He's Korean and I am Chinese.

If not the same ethnicity or not Asian did you combine any traditions from both of your backgrounds?  Sort of.  Our wedding was pretty much entirely western style, but during the ceremony, our officiant read a blessing in english, cantonese, and korean.

Is your FI/FH Asian too? Yup

If yes - is he the same ethnicity as you are? Nope.  He's Filipino and I'm Vietnamese.

If not the same ethnicity or not Asian did you combine any traditions from both of your backgrounds?  We are having a tea ceremony before the mass and having the veil, chord and candle ceremony at the mass. We'll be having a 10 course banquet and a money dance. I get exhausted just typing that out.

Unfortunately, not.  Fi is a mutt, and I am Vietnamese.  The traditional thing would be to do a tea ceremony, but that is usually hosted by the groom's side and well, since FI is not Vietnamese, doesn't make so much sense for us.  :P

we are having a second reception in taiwan, so will do more chinese stuff then. no filipino traditions - except he will wear his barong when i wear my chipao ;P

Is your FI/FH Asian too? Yes

If yes - is he the same ethnicity as you are? No. I'm Chinese Indonesian and he's Korean.

If not the same ethnicity or not Asian did you combine any traditions from both of your backgrounds?  His mom wants us to do the traditional Korean pae bek ceremony, but we are probably going to do it during rehearsal dinner or the day after the wedding. Other than that, the wedding will be western style. Although, I'm planning to have an Indonesian dessert buffet :)

Is your FI/FH Asian too? No.

If yes - is he the same ethnicity as you are? No. I'm Indonesian Chinese and he's mostly Polish (with some Belgium and Irish infused).

If not the same ethnicity or not Asian did you combine any traditions from both of your backgrounds?  A little bit of Asian elements, such as in reception decor (cherry blossom theme for cake and invites, red paper lanterns and everything red). Other than that, just normal Western ceremony in a Catholic church and reception with dance.

PS: marcela, I'm jealous that you have an Indonesian dessert buffet!!!

We are trying to incorporate Dutch elements into the wedding details. I might also get him to wear a Filipino Barong Tagalog for our rehearsal dinner, but I'm not sure that will work. We are doing a full Filipino-Catholic mass and leaning towards a more American/European reception.
