Postponing Wedding?? Well Maybe

Well, we might have to postpone the wedding for the 5th time. Yes, you read it right. The 5th time. It's a long story for all of the postponements.

Anywhoo, some of you know I have gained a lot of weight and my dress no longer fits. The wedding is not until August 2009. I know I have a year to try and lose all of the weight, but I am not sure if it can be done.

I have a lot of obstacles in my way. I have an injured leg and knee, therefore, exercise is pretty much out of the question since I have very limited mobility. I take lots of steroids for my severe asthma which makes me gain weight and to top it off, I have a slow metabolism. Even though I don't eat alot, these things are making it sooo hard to lose weight.

I know that I can just order a new dress in a larger size and be done with it, but to be honest, even though I can afford to get another dress, I honestly don't want to spend another 3k on the dress. I would rather take that money and take my family to Paris, Hawai'i or something.

So, I have been thinking of maybe postponing it again to give me more time to figure out how to drop this weight. If I did decide to postpone it, it would only be by a few months. Nothing drastic.  Nothing is set in stone yet. It is just a thought.

Cross your fingers and toes and hope that I will get lucky and somehow lose the weight and keep my wedding date as it is.

Aww TCB, you have time yet!  All my fingers and toes are crossed for you!

Thanks MissQ. I'm not upset at all about the prospect of postponing. Things happen. You just have to roll with the punches. :0)

Hi Honey,

I am sorry you are feeling bad about your body! Have you thought about swimming as your exercise by any chance? It will be good for your knees and legs and also, it is more asthma friendly because it causes the least amount of chest tightness, plus it means the air you breath while working out will be less dry (also good for asthma).

I don't want you to think I have no idea what you are going through with the injuries. I have been a competitive water polo player and swimmer for years and I have had 3 knee surgeries and countless other injuries. I know it sucks. But trust me, swimming is the best (if not the only) way to get cardio exercise with injuries and it also is a great way to rehab your injuries.

I know you are in the Bay Area (not sure where though) but I would be happy to get together with you and show you ways to get a swim workout without aggravating your knees/legs.

Hope you get excited about your wedding and get motivated to love yourself in time for the big day!!!!!

Jharkins..I have tried swimming. Way too painful. The motion of kicking my leg back and forth was too much for me. It is so bad that everytime I go to walk, I either crash to the ground or almost fall, but am able to grab onto something.

Either way it's something that I deal with.

I am just hoping that I can lose the wight in the next 12 months. Maybe science will come up with a machine that I can go into and 5 minutes later, I will come out with the body of my dreams. ::sigh:: A girl can dream..lol

That is too bad!

have you tried an arm bike? I used that for cardio immediately after my knee surgeries. They have them at a bunch of gyms too

No, I haven't. I need to work my arms, but I need to lose weight on my hips and butt. This is my problem.

I'll figure something out. If I don't, I just might have to break down and get another dress in the larger size. UGGGHH!!

This may sound crazy, or you may have already tried it, but have you considered Yoga?  My friend's mom actually had problems with both knees & her back, & she needed to lose weight, due to diabetes.  She basically bought a Yoga video for beginners, & did what she could.  She said that all in all, the stretching is what made the biggest impact, & she ended up losing about 30 lbs in 8 mons.  I'm not sure what your personal goal is, but hopefully may inspire you.  So...3 years after the fact, she is 75 lbs slimmer & she started going to Yoga classes with a close friend.   She loves it.  Best wishes....you'll soon find the best remedy for you.

i second yoga. especially Bikhram yoga where you sweat your butt off and burn a ton of calories and its very "low impact" but "high results" and very good for your "chi". just make sure to drink lots of water!

Chic, the girl I used to play basketball was in your boat. Once she was injured she started gaining weight. She did not eat very much, but what she did eat went to her ass. We came up with a diet plan for her and she did not work out at all. It really does not matter how much you eat. You body is like a computer, it will re-program itself to burn the right amount of calories. You have to mix it up. People who do not eat fat at all can go eat a bowl of ice cream once in a while and it will not effect them at all. The body gets used to certain food, but if you throw in something new it will boost the metabolism to burn it off. So anyhow she started and I helped and she lost 26 lbs in 4 month with no working out! So it is very very possible.
