Prepping?

What are you doing, or what did you do, to prep for TTC?  It seems there is always something to learn, and I love learning and I'm sure we could all share some tips.

  • If you're a coffee/tea drinker try to wean yourself off that pre TTC or during TTC.
  • Start increasing your water intake
  • Make sure you're getting enough folic acid

These are things I did - except the first - I wish I had done that! Would have avoided the caffiene withdraw headaches!

Gosh, I feel like I learn something new just about every day from this board! I'm TTC in July and so far I've downloaded Fertility Friends, I'm buying prenatals this week, and I'm coming off BC at the end of this month (also researching other supliments now). I've cut processed food and dairy products (though dairy has been tough, DH is better at this than I am!) and I've upped my veggie intake. I've also dropped 10lbs so far and have amped up my workouts.

Temping scares me so I haven't looked too much into that yet, but I'm thinking I should educate myself on it to prepare. Though DH seems to think it's going to stress me out, so I'm not sure if I'll do this straight away or if I'll hold off and simply go off of my speculated fertility/ovulation days.

Sounds good DansMrs!  Thankfully I'm not a caffeine addict, but I will miss my tea.

nicoleleblanc wow on the weightloss!  You looked so skinny anyway.  I just lost 14lbs and originally my goal was to workout 2 times a week, I've been putting in 4-5 workouts a week.

I've been making a ton of nutritional changes.  I always kept things low sodium, but I'm more aggressive about it now and only use "no salt added" broths for my cooking, for example.  I'm not a huge drinker, but I have cut back my alcohol consumption quite a bit - and now I'm definitely a lightweight when I do drink!

Don't forget about DH!  I'm putting him on a (real) multi-vitamin soon.  He's also trying to amp up his workouts, and if I can ever interpret my chart he won't be consuming alcohol on key fertility dates.

I started limiting myself to one small (11oz) coffee per day, and upped my water intake. I also cut down on the sugar (it's sooo hard! I have an enormous sweet tooth) and started upping my fruit and veggie intake. I also take a pre-natal, but it's just a gummie so I know I'll need to add some supplements once we get our BPF. I was most concerned about getting enough folic acid for now. I did loose a few pounds, but I don't want to loose too much since I've read that low BMIs can contribute to infertility. As long as I'm healthy, that's all that matters. It makes good genetic sense that a woman is at her most fertile when her body is most prepared to carry a baby to term, so I just keep trying to eat/exercise/sleep/de-stress with that philosophy in mind:)

@nicoleleblanc: don't be scared of temping! It's not difficult at all, and it actually is one of the few things that you can do to help the process. I think I'd be more stressed if I didn't. At least after my cycle I can say that I know I ovulated, pinpoint the day, know our timing was good, and feel like we did all we could that cycle. The rest is out of our hands, and I don't have to worry about it KWIM? Good luck, let us know if you have questions!

Good stuff! This is what I've worked on so far:

  • Have cut way back on caffeine... I'm not really a coffee or tea drinker but I would drink too much diet soda. We no longer have it in the house, and I only have a glass when we're out as a treat.
  • Drinking a lot more water. So proud of myself for this one!
  • Healthy eating - being more aware of how many fruits, veggies, vitamins I'm getting.
  • Started taking pre-natals (I currently take One-a-Day Women's Prenatals w/ DHA)
  • Went off BC
  • Very limited drinking, not that I was a heavy drinker before
  • Started OPK's to pinpoint when I ovulate
  • Read What to Expect When You're Expecting and now reading What to Expect the First Year - it's been interesting :)
Would love to see what all of you recommend.

Ditto most of the girls above.  I've...

  • cut out alcohol (not that I was a big drinker before)
  • cut out tea (never really drank coffee)
  • started eating a lot healthier, cut out junk food
  • increased the water intake considerable
  • exercised a lot more
  • have been taking folic acid daily
  • read what to expect when you're expecting - which is fantastic!

I did the same as the other ladies - the only thing that I was told when my FSIL (a midwife) found out about my increased exercise routine was to not over-do it because it can sometimes work against you. So rather than hitting the gym hard I started walking to work (3 miles each way) and continued doing that until I was over 6 months at which point I physically couldn't with my enormous bump (monster babies!). I had horrible SPD and any walking hurt so I had to stop :(

Good luck to you all ladies, I can't wait to see all your positive test result threads!!!

Good points ~ the reading is another good way to prep!  I've been reading online blogs, as well as 3 well researched books.

Good points about excerising. My goal was to get into tip top shape before TTC, I want to be able to work out while pregnant for as long as I can and I heard that introducing new workouts while pregnant aren't recomended, so I want my body to be accustomed to running and yoga. But, I never thought it might effect TTC. Thoughts?
