Just wondering.. After the wedding I am hoping to take some photography classes to get better with it.. maybe someday make it a fun career on the side. I have extra money that I'm planning on putting towards an upgraded camera (have a Nikon D40 now) and I was wondering what kind of cameras you pros use!!

I don't consider myself a pro yet, although I have been paid for some shoots (including a few weddings) and I recently upgraded to a 5D mkii.  My back-up is a 60D.  I think doolittle is the only pro who frequents this board anymore and she shoots 5D...hope you don't mind me posting that Shari?! :)

My first camera body was the Canon T2i. It's a great camera for beginners. I just purchased the Canon 5D Mark II

If you have extra money and are looking to upgrade, I would invest in some good lenses before you get another camera body.

I do most of my smaller sessions on a Nikon D90, have a savings going towards a Nikon D700, and I rent the D700 for really important sessions and weddings.

I've been shooting 'professionally' for about 2 years, would love more than anything to upgrade now but I'm hesitant to take out a loan to pay for the gear since I put the business on hold to have a baby, so we're rolling with the D90 still. . .

I agree, put your money towards lenses and education, then upgrade your camera body.
