I have never received an out-of-town basket at any wedding.  I'm going to have to take on the role of the pennypincher and say a big NO to this one.  I think 80% of my guests are out of town, spread all over Texas, or across the country.  This idea is fine for those who have money to throw away.

I agree, my wedding is in May, and that would cost way too much to buy everyone towels and flip flops and baskets, etc. It would be nice, but I think I would rather use the money for some fun things at the wedding, like a photobooth :D

I agree I won't be doing this because of money and I have way to many I would have to make before then.

If I had more money to spend I could do gift baskets for everyone, buuuut I don't.  They will be getting homemade jam as the wedding favor though. I wanted to do something people would actually want to take with them. Plus if they don't take it my dad will be all about eating the extras!

We're having a small destination wedding. Since everyone is spending a lot just to come see us get married, it was a MUST for me. It's such a nice token to say "thank you". And they don't have to cost a lot-- I'm doing mine fairly inexpensively. I DON'T think it's "thowing away money".

Tovaqt: I completly agree!  I really want to do baskets for the people that are spending so much to be at our DW wedding.  I'm doing mine for fairly cheap too.  You can get a lot of good deals on summery things this time of year and I think our guests will really appreciate it.

I am definitely doing out of town baskets. For me it is a given--if people can take their time and spend their money to celebrate you by coming into town and bring you a gift on top of that, the least you can do is show appreciation by giving a small gift/welcome basket. It doesn't have to be much! It not going to break the bank over it but I do want to give them a little something. You can buy water bottles, snacks, etc. in bulk at places like Sam's or Costco's. Maps only require ink and paper from your printer.

I've stayed over at every wedding I've gone to this year.. ranging from those 30 mins from my house to those 4 hours from my house.. and I've only gotten one out-of-town basket. That being said, I think they're a nice touch and I'd like to do something small.

I have people traveling from the East Coast to Cali, so I guess I should do this one! I think I might go with the California theme - local strawberries and biscuits to start with.
