PW Guide Article: DIY Cupcake Ideas

love this article...sigh.  it's making me hungry right now.  speaking of cupcakes...a client came by yesterday to thank me and his attorney with these beauties (from cake couture, honolulu, hi)...

Not a very creative/decorative person when it comes to cupcakes and cakes.  How do i find the best way to put the icing on the cupcakes without making them look "homemade"?  I'm on a SUCH a tight budget it squeaks.  I'd like to still do a small cake for our wedding but then follow it by cupcakes made by me and family members.  that's the easy part - icing!! sigh!? 

Hey Asaylor - Go to Walmart or Michaels and buy yourself a cheap piping set and some frosting.  I think I used one of the star shaped piping tips and put the frosting in the bag and just squeezed away.  I made some for one of my social groups and they thought I had them professionally made.  I printed out a sheet of 1" flags and glued them on some toothpicks to top off the cupcakes but next time I might use a piece of fruit or candy.

I love cupcakes!! Yay!!! Will definitely be having cupcakes featured at my wedding! May have it at the candy buffet and dessert table instead of as the cake itself but we will see. We're checking with one more baker. The one we are planning to go with now doesn't do wedding cupcakes.

Crate and Barrel has the most amazing cupcake stuff out right now from books to equipement....I even think I saw a DIY wedding cupcake book. I was just in there today and glanced at it. So fun!! We are having mini cupcakes that each have a different filling : ) They are simply AH-MAZ-ING!!! AND I CANT WAIT!!!
