I love DIY weddings but they can also look junky if they aren't done well.  Sometimes what we think will look good, doesn't turn out!

I am terrified that my DIY projects will look... DIY. haha

You said it July! I'm only taking on the DIY projects that I think I can do just as well as a professional. If I can't, then I'm handing it over! That said, I don't think a DIY wedding neccessarily has to *look* DIY at all. If you don't have an artistic or crafty streak, any DIY project is probably going to end up being a bit more complicated than you expected. I think you have to have extremely strong spatial reasoning skills to pull it off with flair.

I've always been a crafty person, so I was ALL OVER the DIY project wedding. lol

I think the huge thing the article is missing is the amount of time involved in DIYing all or most of your wedding. I WISH I would have recorded the hours I've spent researching, shopping online, visiting shops and shopping IRL even before I got around to the actual tactile projects. THANK GOD I'm self employed and have a lot of extra time on my hands at work.

I went from a woman with a mind that "wedding" hadn't crossed, to an informed, competely DIY, budget savvy wedding planner (toot toot *yea thats me on my own horn. lol* hey, I'm doing good!) but not without a HUGE time investment!

I think DIY wedding is a possible venture, and it depends the extent of your guest list. If you have around 400 like we are having, ah no!! I have spent countless hours researching for the essentials that are needed for a formal black tie wedding. I can't even begin how much time has been involved and we have been engaged for 4 months. I am not knocking this aspect of wedding planning, but I hope the bride whom decides to "take this for a spin" knows what she is getting into and has an army of friends to help her!!

I'm only having 60 guests and I'm DIYing practically everything. The only thing I'm getting professional help on is my makeup and the photography.

I completely support a bride's desire to DIY her wedding, but understand that some aspects can be overwhelming. With that in mind, my service here in Austin, Texas pairs brides with projects, supplies, instructors and even space for them & their friends/family to put it all together. DIY is possible and if it gets a little hard we are here to help!
