The jewler that made my ring surprised us by telling us to clean it with dish soap and a toothbrush also! She claims it's one of the only products that does not leave a film on the diamond and does not weaked the gold prongs. It makes my diamonds sparkle like brand new!

The jewler my ring came from gave us the red jar of cleaner.  I usually run mine under water and brush every morning... I finally have it and do all I can to keep it blinging!!  :)  My BFF cleans hers with vodka... I haven't tried it yet, but have any of you ever done this?

These are great tips. I've also read an article talking about not wearing it at night because your bed sheets can snag or scratch the diamond and prongs over time. As well as not wearing it in the shower to avoid product buildup.

Having worked in the jewelry industry, and having a beautiful setting to take care of myself, I can say you should NOT use any kind of soap. It will leave a residue and dull stones quickly. If you do, make sure it's rinsed well with warm water. Ammonia free windex is great for a quick fix or for removing a stuck ring. Never use lotion for removal as it will leave a residue as well. The cleaner in the red jar is great by the way! Not sure about the vodka thing, but if it doesn't work, I'm sure it can be put to other uses... ;0)

If you do have a white gold ring (all are rhodium plated) and take it to the jeweler make sure they don't polish as that will remove the plating. Ultrasonic cleaner and steamer is the best. Most jewelers will do this for free as well as check the stones. For best results, I take mine in for a professional (free) clean and checkup every two-three months.

One final bit of advice is too keep the ring at home or in a jewelry bag while at the gym too in order to avoid dings or scratches caused by metal on weights and sweat build up.

Mine has all sorts of nooks and crannies to clean so I like a soft bristle brush as well. Here's the engagement ring. Still in perfect condition after 5 yrs. (knock on wood!)

Anyone know the name/brand of the "cleaner in the red jar?" And/or where to get it?! Thanks :)

The cleaner in the red jar is Connoisseurs jewelry cleaner, and I saw some at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  I got some with my ring, and it works great!  It comes with a small brush as well.
