Good article, but I have to disagree on some level with the "saves money" argument. What I've found out in the process of planning a home wedding (though not my home), is that when you have to bring everything in (consider lighting and rentals, in particular), it ups the expense considerably. I'm also renting a home for my location, so that's an added cost as well.

Another thing to consider - and I list this as a "con" - is that a home reception requires you to do an awful lot more yourself than would ordinarily be necessary at a "wedding venue". If you can afford to hire a wedding coordinator, that will help, but be prepared to put in some serious elbow grease to create the wedding of your dreams.

Another con to consider for large groups is whether the septic system can accommodate the number of guests that will need to use the restroom.  I have been to two home receptions with approximately 100-175 guests and both times the septic system backed up causing a foul smell for the entirety of the reception.  Not an ideal situtation under any circumstance but particularly while people are eating!
