I was looking into doing an iPod, but I just don't want to have to be stressed and worried about it.  In the end, we are going with a DJ and I think we will be very happy.  Everyone needs to make the right choice for themselves, no one should tell anyone what they should do.

I don't recall seeing a clause in the marriage license that said if we don't have a dj we aren't really married. I certainly hope no snooty Debbie downer guests ruin it for us. Those people don't need to be around at a celebration like that.

and actually a good DOC can work also as a MC, that's why I save a lot of money....IPOD and a DOC.

We're doing an Ipod for ours, but we asked a good, outgoing friend of ours to be our MC for the special songs and to keep an eye on when the crowd looks like they're getting bored and something new needs to be played.

I'm not 100% sure yet, but we were talking about having two different playlists.  One with party/dance music (music we both enjoy and love to boogie down to) and then another one with softer songs, this way things don't get stuck on a weird shuffle all night.

We're having a band and then having an iPod play our other "must-have" music when they are taking a break. The band is also going to manage our iPod, so no one (guests or us!) have to deal with it. No DJ, and FI is happier that way :-)

If you are using an iPod, check out the My Wedding DJ app.  The DIY Bride does a review of it.  It'll put a hold in between songs if you are using it for the ceremony, the songs will fade out and in like a DJ would it.  You can even add requests (as long as the song is in your iPod of course) without ruining your playlist.  It's really great - we're using it for our At Home Reception.

We're doing a hybrid, mainly because we are hand picking every song that will be played throughout the wedding, we're recording the announcements like the wedding party, and we're mixing all the ceremony music.  Granted my husband to be is a musician so that helps.  But we are going to hire a dj who is going to play our play lists at the right times throughout the night.  This way it will be about $300 instead of $1000.  Wedding dj's are such a raquet.  As soon as they hear "wedding" instead of "party" the fee jumps $500 bucks.

I hired a DJ thats actually very affordable and he's doing my ceremony music and reception for under $700 including my uplights and he has a great bose sound system with all the professional equipment!! SUBSONIC DJS is the best!!!!!!

We are hiring someone who performs professionally for the ceremony and time between ceremony and reception while we have photos taken... the reception will be off a playlist drawn up by fi and his best man(they both used to dj)... we are having a morning wedding without dancing so i refuse to pay for a dj... we want background music so for us a playlist is perfect...

Not everyone has the same requirements for their wedding, so each couple needs to weigh up the pros and cons and decide for themselves which they'd prefer..

Our officiant (and friend) suggested we make playlists of songs we want and when we want them to play (for example, jazz songs for during Cocktail hour) and we can hire a "DJ" of sorts who only needs to change the playlists and watch over the computer/mp3 player.

I like this idea very much bc my FI and I are lovers of music and don't really listen to mainstream, so we'd love to hand pick each song. And we can save money by not hiring a DJ to mix and play his desired songs, but by hiring a DJ to over-see the transitions and that there are no computer errors.
