I'm actually looking at doing a buffet of smaller cakes instead of one big cake. My wedding is only for about 50 people and my favorite bakery will do 5-6 deluxe cakes for $150 but it will cost about $250-300 for a wedding cake. The wedding cake is considered a special order but they make and sell their deluxe cakes everyday for 25-30. I asked and they are even willing to do the small deluxe cakes in my wedding colors free of charge if I call and place the order at least a week ahead of time.  So for half the money I can get several small beautiful cakes that serve 8-10 large slices in pretty 50's pastels. I think it really pays to talk to your baker!!!

While I love the concept these actually can end up costing more than a traditional cake.  I did a wedding were these little minis cost $55 a piece.  They were beautiful but still too large for one serving.

We decided to do one size cake for us but like a smaller type, and we are doing cupcakes in our colors for the guests it is going to alot easier on us and our budget ...I have been looking into this for a long time and it is very easy on your wallet if you are into fancy cakes and just want something simple but elegant
