That sentence "flowers are a must at a wedding" hurts my spirit.  Is that so?  Are we not married if we don't have them?  I feel bad enough that probably 200 animals are going to die just because I am getting married, between the chicken and fish that will be ordered.  Do I need to rip plants from the earth too?  I was planning to have candles for my centerpieces instead.  I just want to tread lightly on the earth, even thought I know the candles give off carbon, so that is bad too!

Aww Lizza, your comment made me heart squeeze! I agree with you- they aren't a MUST! If you don't want them, don't have them. I think your candel idea sounds charming, and I commend you for trying to be green!

oh seriously.... ripping plants out of the earth?!?! unbelievable. Flowers grow, they bloom, and then they die.... why not let everyone enjoy their beauty while they can?? It's not being horrible to have beautiful flowers at your wedding. they add an amazing element. and if you don't want them, then don't have them. but maybe you should try to relax a bit.

Lizza, you could always do potted plants if you really wanted that floral or green element...Then they live on for a long time! I'm growing flowers in my garden this year to use at my wedding!

Nothing is a must for a wedding - apart from a bride and groom, lol.

I'm sure that is not how the article was intended. I think flowers are one of the loveliest things in the world, for me - they are non negotiable :) Love the article :)

Katie, do you by chance live in the Midwest?  What types of flowers will you grow?  I am thinking of doing the same however I am thinking I should have started growing them last year so that this year they will be more hardy!  I typically grow veggies every summer and my flowerbed is just full of hostas, grasses, bushes, and dianthus  I have never grown cut flowers. I am thinking white, with a little green and touch of blush for my september wedding.  Let me know your thoughts.  Thanks!
