If Ear Candy were a word, I'd look it up in an online dictionary, click the "read aloud" button, and next thing I know, Katharine McPhee's Lifetime would start playing in my ears. Yeah, I think I would die happy. But no, seriously, How can you NOT be happy after listening to this song? It is summer sunshine, rainbows, puppies, love, and all other good things combined with a catchy hook and breezy, contemporary production. It's clever without being pretentious or a "try hard", and it's beautiful and inspiring without being cheesy or overtly emotional. And it's not so breezy that it skips on the emotional and vocal dynamics inherent.
The song goes "breathe breathe breathe before you get old, sing sing sing a song that you know, etc..." It tell us to live life! Yes, it will hurt sometimes, and yes you will hit some bad times, but keep on going with "no regrets" because you never know when "this could be the moment that turns into a lifetime."
Katharine here is the most vocally restrained and comfortable on a track than I have heard her thus far. Her tone is easy, warm, and so relaxed, I swear I can hear her smiling through the song. And I'll bet she is smiling, having written the song herself. She sings it like she believes it. She captures something uniquely her own here, aided greatly by the songs masterful production courtesy of co-writer Krisin "Boots" Ottestad. If after listening to this, you are not humming "ah uh ah uh uh ah uh oh oh oh" under your breath, something is plain wrong!
Congratulations Katharine. This song should be on television, uplifting contestants on reality shows and urging the good folks out there to buy ipods. It also needs to be in family movies. I deem this "instant classic."
