pergo/laminate floors? How big was the room? How long did it take? How much did you spend?

Ramon has done this in about 6 different homes and he naturally said yes to install it in our home. YAY for that, but unfortunately with his new promotion, he is unable to take any vacation days for a while, which means he can only work on the house during weekends. I however, will be taking a full week and a half off to work on the house. I would like to pitch in and work on the floors during the week. Am I in over my head? Have any of you ladies done this before?

TIA!

@princess: really? Two hours? Did you have the click and lock feature? How much padding did you lay underneath?

my parents did this in their house a few years ago.  it was really easy once you get the hang of it. i don't remember how long it took because we did this to the entire 2nd floor (consisting of the hallway, 3 bedrooms and closets).  we used the click and lock ones and just used one layer of padding underneath.

i think the one tricky part is cutting the pieces down to the right shape for odd corners.  other than that, it was really easy.

btw, have you checked out the ones they sell at costco? i think they have a special in their coupon book right now for laminate floors.  not sure if they have the color you want.

MSCIN: Thanks for the heads up! Good to know that the click n lock feature is pretty manageable. I've heard to invest in some knee pads before taking on this task! haha. I've heard about the laminate floors at costco. Do you know about how much they run per sq ft or package?

DH did ours.It actually took a while since it was our entire bottom floor.

Ours were the ones with padding. We got ours from Costco, and we're really happy with the quality for what we paid.

Linzee: Do you mind sharing how much it was per sq ft or package? I tried to look it up on website but it doesn't give any of that info out.

** We will be laying floors down in the formal living room, formal dining room, family room and upstairs hallway

jaryce -- sorry, i don't know how much the laminate floors run at costco.  maybe stop by costco to see what colors/type of laminate flooring they have and the pricing...or give them a call for the price if you don't have time to stop by.

yes! i would rec getting knee pads. i think one of those laminate kits may come with a block you use with your hammer to lock the pieces together.  i just found some information about installing laminate flooring on a blog for you...she had some good pointers.  she also mentioned that she bought her laminates from ikea!

i am sure you know this already, but when you install the second line of planks (and every line there after), stand back and look at it to make sure its how you want it to look in terms of how the lines/cuts line up with the previous row.  we made the rookie mistake and just installed the planks as is so all the lines matched up exactly and it did not look right at all.  we had to pull them apart and cut mismatched size planks so the lines wouldn't line up.
