Congrats to your FI for following his dreams.
As hard as it is knowing that every day they are out risking their lives, it's also comforting and reassuring to know that their job does so much for everyone. They're out making a difference and helping those that need it. Fires are only a
fraction of the type of calls that they go on. A very, very, very small fraction. A majority of DH's calls are traffic accident calls. No real danger for him there.
The schedule may take some getting used to. I actually do not mind it because it allows for "me time". I can hang out with girlfriends, family, or myself and not feel guilty about leaving DH behind.
