I've had a lot of people (including here on PW) suggesting that I go to the SF Flower Market http://www.sfflmart.com/index.html  to get my flowers for our reception centerpieces (the hotel will be providing the mirror [that goes under the floating candle bowl], floating candle bowl & floating candles) and church pew decorations.  I just need to provide flowers to add to the floating candle bowl.

There are 90 vendors at the Flower Market -- can you guys recommend anyone in particular who can give a good deal or have good flowers?

What kind of flowers are you looking for?  Try SOMA Flowers.  I got some flowers there for my trial and a manzanita branch.  You can negotiate with her a little on the price too.  :)

I think the prices at SF Flower Mart are actually just average, not particularly cheap, unless you have a wholesale license.  Especially for roses, I didn't think they were a good deal.  There's also Mt. Eden Floral Co. in Mountain View which you might want to check out too.  Their prices are about the same too, just less selection.  But if you need floral supplies, like vases and stuff, they have really good prices.

i would just walk around and see who has the prettiest flowers - it's hard to pick a vendor (prob because i dunno any there --hehehe, sorry not much help). but i did get my flowers there and there's just tons to choose from, but they all end up being the same. you can bargain and price match with the vendor owners...

i'll be checking out the mt eden flowermart in mountain view on this thurs morning. can do some pricing for you if you tell me what you're looking for. dahlias and daisy's look pretty floating...just lemme know.

38chi - i'm looking for orchids (if they have any purple ones dyed blue, that'd be great), ranunculus, freesias.  what i need are flowers that can be used for my church pews (sprays like how orchids are), plus flowers with a flatter head that'll float well and flowers for my cake (i need 3 different kinds). i don't really like daisys. Dahlias would be great but heard they are expensive.  looking for dark blue, dark purple and magenta colours (since i'm using peacock feathers as a design element so I'm getting my colours from that).

can you also see if they have discounts if you buy a certain number of flowers? (ie. a douzen orchids or something).

let me know if you want me to keep at neye out for anything at the SF flower market! heading there tomorrow morning.

I went there 3 times and I really liked the people at Casablanca flowers. It's right outside on 6th st. Their roses are what I used to do my mockups and they quoted me at around $14 for 25 roses that's the best price I found so I will be using them.

update on my trip to SF Flower Market:  OMG - I'm in LOVE!!!! (lol)  I ended up making 2 trips within the last 24 hrs.  The 1st time my mom was with me & I can't shop with her (I've been crankly lately - thank goodness I don't live with my FI yet otherwise... :-/   Today was much better and I was able browse & talk at leisure.

thanks for sharing your experiences - I did check out SOMA flowers & Casablanca Flowers and a few other stalls.  I wasn't crazy about SOMA flowers customer service (although they had an excellent selection). 

I also popped into The Greenery - they  had ranunculus and beautiful dahlias (none of the other ones had them).  Prices fluctuate but today ranunculus were $6.50/bunch (each bunch had 10 open blooms); dahlias (which were breathtakingly beautiful and came in my dark purple colour!) were $7/bunch (6 open blooms per bunch)

Casablanca was wonderful & spend nearly an hour there talking to them to get ideas on what to do.  They even gave me 8 purple orchid blossoms that were old that fell off the branch (I was asking for just one bloom to try in my centerpiece).  I'm definitely going to get a lot of my flowers there for the centerpieces (floating orchids in 2 colours), flowers for the cake decoration & for the simple pew decor.  They even have this amazing teal coloured little flowers (they said its wax flowers) and its perfect for my peacock theme - will use it for the pew arrangement as filler flowers (instead of baby's breath).  I might also buy roses - they were cheapest around!
