Hello ladies!

Im transitioning from relaxed to natural and was wondering is anyone else doing the same? or has anyone gone through the process? What advice can you give me? I plan on doing BC right after the wedding in June or July. Right now I am 3months since my last relaxer and I put in a sew in weave.

TIA

I BC'd 02/10/2010 and I am forever grateful that I did. My hair is back to be thick and heavenly! Ugh... I gush every time I think about it.

I transitioned for four months and got impatient... my advice to you is to protective style for as long as possible. Although you won't get the experience of getting to know your hair type and what it likes and what it doesn't like prior to your BC you will be able to retain more length that way.

Make sure that you are keeping the hair underneath your sew in good and moisturized! Find some natural products that work for you... I love Say Yes to Carrots best product out there for me right now and it's at Target.

Assess your ends each time you take out your sew-ins because you don't want the relaxed ends to start to split and make their way up the shaft of the hair to the new growth.

Yea I was thinking of going from relaxed to natural. I have seen people that transitioned without "chopping" off all their hair, and it looks good. I don't know if I have the patience though.

YouTube!!!! it has helped me a ton with my hair.

I used to do relaxers when I was younger. I stopped because my hair was extremely damaged from it. So I just let the relaxed hair grow out. After that I started straightening my hair everyday. Heat! Flat irons blow dryers. needless to say my hair was really damaged and breaking off. I recently started wearing my hair in it's natural state, curly. Youtube has helped me so much with advice on what products to use, how to maintain, what's good and bad for your hair etc. I love my curls now. I will post some links to some youtubers that I am subscribed to who give a ton of advice on natural hair and how to maintain it.

-And good for you for going through with it! I don't now if I would have had the guts to do a BC! Best of luck to you on your hair journey! :)

Also Im sure you can search 'big chop' on YouTube and find some others to subscribe to! :)

I know I'm a little late on this post but I BC'd in May and kept a low even hair cut for a while. For the past 3 months I have been growing my hair out and experimenting with different products to find which one works best for me (Miss Jessie is next on my list!).
Like Melly said youtube is a lifesaver! I recently coiled and did a coil out all by myself this wknd thanks to the 'tube!!
I'm also OBSESSED with curly Nikkis blog- www.curlyNikki.com. I've gotten so many ideas and so much advice from her blog- LOVE IT!!

Good luck on your hair journey and remember to have FUN with it!!!!

Sorry I'm slow-- what is BC? Scratch that, I just saw in Melly's post. I am natural and have been for 4 years. I have locs. I love them but they drive me crazy sometimes to be honest because the top gets flaky despite my teatree organic shampoo and sometimes it seems dirty within the locs at the tips. I want them to be even longer than they are now, but I don't know if i will be able to hold out for that. I also feel like my hair needs maintenance more often but don't want to over twist since that makes locs weak. My loctician has already had to join a couple together and I have some other thin ones. She says this is common, but still. She also says I might be allergic to olive oil which is what we use on my hair. She said it is a thick oil and some people's scalps reject it because it's too much oil. She suggested almond oil or another light food based oil (I'm very much into putting healthy, natural things in my hair). They're more expensive but I don't care about that part, I'm willing to pay. It's not like I have to buy it often because a bottle of oil lasts a long time.

What type of natural styles are you going for. I have heard it said that natural hair is more maintenance and it is true but it is so much healthier. I'm considering chopping my hair and doing another natural style. Everyone says my locs are beautiful and they are but I go back and forth over what I mentioned above and it has become more and more bothersome. I hate to try to start something new though with a little over 5 months to the wedding because I don't think my hair will have enough time to adjust.

Ohh I just love this I was actually going to start a post similar to this I actually transitioned for 6 mths post wedding and I was going to transiton for about two years, but didn't have the patience and wanted something different so I BC'd 9/27/10.

I agree with Melly1588 You tube is the best. and you look at the same people I do.

I use Nappturality.com, BLHC.com, and I have a FB forum for transitioners even though I BC I still have some ppl that are transitoning still. NICE!!! I am excited for you

BGLHonline.com has definitely helped me tons and tons.

Napptuarlity has also it gives a place for people with 4a,b,c hair to discuss and get tips. I love it !

I swear by curlynikki as well!

I don't like Miss Jessie's not only is it expensive but it just didn't work with my 4a/4b hair!

YouTube.com/kimmaytube = life saver!
