Reverse sneezing. Does your dog do it?

Oscar does this once and a while and it is so scary! This morning after FFI left for work, Oscar started doing it and it was a really bad episode. Off and on for like 10 minutes it was so scary. I was thinking, "he's going to die right here in front of me"

I looked it up online again and most people said it's common in small dogs, and Oscar is a mini dachshund. Apparently it's caused by inflammation in the roof of their mouth which shrinks the trachea making it difficult for them to inhale. It can be brought on by anxiety, eating, drinking and a few other things. He had just had a big drink of water so I am assuming that was it.

It's just so scary! I just rubbed his throat and told him it was going to be OK. Apparently massaging their throat, tilting their head up and sometimes breathing into their nostrils can help. (I didn't breathe into his nostrils because I had morning breath, how rude would that be! lol)

My Dog does that when he drinks water too fast, or he has been sniffing around a lot of dust.  It's so Freaky & I hate it!

a lot of flat faced dogs do this, both of our pugs have done it and my 10 month old bullmastiff did it once a while ago. our vet said not to worry about it, they just have to get through it.

My dog does it all the time. He is a Yorkie and it is apparently very common with Yorkies.

But yes, it is very scary!

My maltese does this too. Its so sad. Ive been told to massage her throat to help it to stop. I also pick her up and take her outside for fresh air and that seems to help.

My pups also do this from time to time.  The first time I heard Bug do it, I freaked out.  I thought she was dying.  LOL.

Put your fingers over their nose holes for just a couple seconds, it will force them to breathe through their mouth, fixing the problem right away :)

or you can rub on their throat for a second.

Our beagle Goride does it too, usually when he gets anxious. Rubbing his throat and putting my fingers over his nose always seems to help but it still freaks my friend's out when he does it.
