Oscar does this once and a while and it is so scary! This morning after FFI left for work, Oscar started doing it and it was a really bad episode. Off and on for like 10 minutes it was so scary. I was thinking, "he's going to die right here in
front of me"
I looked it up online again and most people said it's common in small dogs, and Oscar is a mini dachshund. Apparently it's caused by inflammation in the roof of their mouth which shrinks the trachea making it difficult for them to inhale. It can
be brought on by anxiety, eating, drinking and a few other things. He had just had a big drink of water so I am assuming that was it.
It's just so scary! I just rubbed his throat and told him it was going to be OK. Apparently massaging their throat, tilting their head up and sometimes breathing into their nostrils can help. (I didn't breathe into his nostrils because I had
morning breath, how rude would that be! lol)
