Anyone know anything about this issue?  I was told since I'm O- and my husband is A+ that I will need to get a shot?  We miscarried our first LO and was told that especially since that happened we'll need this shot to be able to carry a baby to term?  Anyone have any information that is concrete and not just hearsay?

It's called a Rhogam shot - I had to have one at around 28 weeks.  They say if you miscarried that you should get the shot before you get pregnant again since that may have been the reason you miscarried.

Basically, you need the shot so your body does not attack the baby.  If you google Rhogam shot it will tell you more about it :) Ask your dr about it since he will need to give it to you and it's just a shot in the butt!

I'm O- and my DH is O+, so I had to get the Rhogam shot too. (around 28 weeks)  I got mine in my arm.  There is a second Rhogam show you get after birth, but I didn't need to get the second shot, because DS is O- too.

Hope that makes sense!

Yep, I had the shots. I also had to have additional ones because I had a couple of bleds during my pregnancy so they gave me one each time too

It's ok xxx

I'm A- and DH is B- and I still got it. Too much to risk it if for some reason his mom got his blood type wrong or something...

Rhogham is important in your situation, yes you need it :)

I'm a-, my husband is o-.  We cannot make an RH-Positive baby, so I don't need the shot.

However, RH-negative women can 'reject' future (not first) babies if they did not get Rhogam, because their body will develop antibodies against an RH-positive fetus, which is possible to have if the husband/partner is RH-Positive.

The Rhogam stops your body from making those antibodies, which I belive are permanent once they happen. . .so yes, get it done.  You'll get one if you spot/bleed, around 28 weeks, maybe closer to full term again, and after the baby is born if he/she is RH-Positive.

BTW, I got rhogham at 8 weeks because I was spotting. . .I didn't know DH was O-negative.  Baby is healthy and currently sitting on my lap trying to eat the desk! :) :) :)
