Ring Shopping before Engagement?

Hi All!

I'm rather new here and am just starting to feel my way around. After a recent conversation with the BF, though, I have reason to think (and hope) that I might be getting a proposal soon. *Fingers Crossed* It will have been 7 years dating come November so I'm getting antsy :)

Anyhow, he was asking me about what I like and don't like, places that might be good to go, etc. and I realized that I have picked out TONS of things online but never tried anything on in person. So I don't know what I would necessarily like ON ME.

Does anyone know if jewelry stores are accommodating for pre-engagement gals to come look and try on things to see what they like best and where they can steer their guys to?

Any other tips, etc. would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and good luck to everyone here!

:)

My FFI and I went together. We explained we were just looking to get an overall idea of what we both like and every store we went to acted like people do it all the time. I highly recommend it though because what I thought I wanted and what I actually liked were completely different.

I can't recommend any stores bc we went to local jewelers. I liked them much better than bigger chain stores. You definitely had better customer service.

Hope this helps!

Thanks ladies! I'm already a total pain because I'm allergic to nickel so white gold is out of the question. I think I'll check a few local places that have good ratings and start there. I'll see if the FFI would rather go together or have me go alone and then send the ideas along (in case he starts hyperventilating or something) :)

I know the bridal boutiques don't like you going in too prematurely and "just playing dress up" with the wedding gowns so I wasn't sure if jewelers were the same.

Thanks again!

I went to Kay and they were great we also went to a local store but felt as if kay was much more accepting of the fact he was not going to buy it while I was there. the lady we worked with even wrote the style number on her business card for him to put in his wallet for when he was ready to come back!

I have gone ring shopping with my mom, but I haven't gone ring shopping with my boyfriend.

I have googled, tried on, looked, dreamed, etc. about my future engagement ring and I got to the point where I got so confused I took a break. My poor boyfriend got shown more rings then I can count and he got confused.

I finally took a break and really thought about what I wanted (quality, size, cut, setting, etc). Then I went on a specific search for my ring. I have always dreamed of having a Tiffany & Co ring (yes I know you pay for the name), and so I looked at tiffany and found my dream ring. I showed it to boyfriend, and he fell in love with it too.

I recommend knowing what you like (or at least having an idea of what you like), want, and, your requirements for a ring before going shopping or you could have serious overload. (And I recommend ring shopping or at least hinting to your boyfriend, because frankly in the beginning mine had no clue)!

Well, at first I didn't want anything to do with picking out the ring. I wanted him to do it based on what he liked for me. At the time we had been dating 8 years and he knew my style pretty well. But, he asked me to join him to get a better idea, so I went. I was sooooo surprised that rings that looked amazing in the case I didn't like on my hand. Some stick up too high or are uncomfy. Any who, I think it's a great idea to look together, as long as you have clear intentions that you are looking, bc some sales people are pushy about sales.

That said, have fun!!!!

Thanks everyone! I'm nervous and excited and am hoping that going by myself first will help him not get overwhelmed later. Will keep you posted! Thanks again!
