I heard that they should be sent 6-9 months before the wedding. My wedding is next May and I plan to send it in August. Most of my guests are from out of town so I have to send them early.

It depends...are you having a lot of out of town guests?  If so, you may want to give them six months at least to plan.  If most of your guests are local, then they're not really necessary or if you just want people to get excited...then send them whenever you want! :)  My wedding is in October and I sent them at the beginning of April giving them six months.

We sent ours 6 months in advance because the wedding is over Labor Day Weekend and we wanted to make sure people didn't plan anything for that day.

When I originally researched this, I found an average of 6-8 months in advance.  Like Pinky, our date is during a Holiday weekend so we sent our save-the-dates approx 8 months in advance.

i think as soon as you nail down a location and date it never hurts to send it out early.  i've gotten a few up to 1 year in advance.

I’ve heard usual is 6 months.  My wedding is November 1st and I sent them out Mid June, about 4 months out.  I didn’t want to send out too early just because they might forget or misplace it, if it’s too early mind as well just send the invites.  4 months was good for me because 1-2 months later the invites are received, it kind gets them excited.

It’s your preference, usually if you have out of town guest it’s best to do it 6 months in advance if local I probably would send them at least 3-4+ months in advance.

Yah, I would think the sooner the better if you want those people there AND you for sure know your date/ place!  They say earlier for summer weddings too. You could always get them and send them out to the people you know are FOR SURE going, we only sent 40 out (100 people for sure) Down the line if you figure out anymore 'for sures' you can send some more out...

We still have a few left- I think we ordered 50 or so.  They were mainly helpful for guests knowing the date to reserve hotel rooms~ Since our place books up completely in the summer.  They all got rooms taken care of... ohh and I think we sent them out 8-9 months before- haha but everyone already knew our date by then!

- HMM :)

Same here - I sent out just to a few of them.  I am having 175 guests and I sent out 80.
