Ladies, please share some advice that you think might me useful for the new moms here!

Heres mine: My baby just turned 1 month old a couple days ago, and I realized that newborn going out outfits is a complete waste of money.  I was too scared of taking her out for the first month.  She was constantly crying and I was getting adjusted to changing her diapers, so she was always in her sleeping clothes (simple onesies).  In conclusion, I would advise to save your money on nicer, going out clothes when your baby is a little older (at least 3 months).

My advice:

Write everything down in the memory book.  Write your child a letter about your pregnancy and the day you delivered.  It is so nice seeing 10, 20 years later :) Take lots of pictures and actually put them in albums.  Print two copies of all pictures.  You will need them later when your kid grows up.  Rest now while you can.  You will see how time passes by and you'll really have sleepless nights.  Read books, start the learning now! Practice makes perfect :)

Both excellent advice ladies! My brother's first is due in September and was talking about clothes - I told him to buy 1 or 2 special outfits and then a ton of onesies - there is nothing more awful than a puke or poop stained expensive outfit 3 minutes after getting them dressed!! Lol

I still write in my book to my boys. I started it the day I found out I was pregnant and they will be 4 in July. I only write every couple of months now, but they've had some major historical moments so far - Obama, Bin Laden, Kate & Will - it's great reading back over my notes to them already, it will be amazing when they're adults!

My advice -

* don't be afraid to speak up. If you need help don't be too proud to ask for it, if you don't want visitors tell them!!
* book a night away for you and your man for when your little one is about 3 months. It's something to look forward to (&
dread at the same time! Lol) but will give you a well earned break - and some sleep!!
* batch cook & freeze as many meals as you can, then all you need to do is heat it up and whip up a salad/bread to go with
it. It's so tempting to hit the junk food when you're tired!

Get out of the house once a day! Even if it's to walk down the block, I always felt so much better afterwards.

Give yourself a break once a week...have DH watch the baby and again get out of the house even if you just go for a drive - blast the radio lol. It will help recharge you, even if it's 15 mins.

Screw the housework! Or have the grandmas clean, they will be dying to help and it's perfect.

My pedi said this: the baby should fit into your life, not you fit into his, he will adapt. I think that was the best thing I heard

Newborns cry - a lot. It's how they communicate. We have a checklist if he is crying: is he hungry? Wet? Gassy / needs to burp? Usually those 3 things solve the crying :-)

Remember your hubby...I think the hardest thing for my DH is that he doesn't have 100% of my attention anymore and that hard for him, he understands but it's still hard. I try to do little things like turn the coffee machine on if I wake up first or get him a special treat at the grocery store. Just so he knows I love him.

I agree about speaking up too - the first couple of weeks home or the best & worst. You are trying to figure this little person out. I barely had time to brush my teeth. Add visitors to that and it's even more exhausting! I said no to everyone haha!

I was very unsociable too!! I lived a couple of minutes from work, so people kept trying to pop in during their lunch break or after work so FFIL made a sign that said 'mum & babies sleeping, please come back later'!!!

I still buy little things for FI when I'm out because he's at work all day and I'm out playing with the boys, just silly things like a donut, but he knows that we're still thinking of him while we're out having fun!

'Screw the housework' - is it wrong that I still have that attitude even though the boys are almost 4??? Lol

I would have to say my #1 piece of advice is your baby will sleep longer. One day - not sure when - but they will. I was so sleep deprived at the beginning, I was obsessed with when my ds would sleep!! it will happen - I promise.

I would also advise to take it easy on yourself. I had pretty high expectations of myself the first few months. I thought I had to do everything I did before AND care for an infant. I was cleaning, cooking full meals, entertaining friends (though I never regretted the visits, I just should have asked them to pick up carry out). It was plain coo coo of me. I have learned to slow down and change my expectations of myself. Kid is happy, hubby is happy, I'm happy - then all is good.

I can only imagine with two babies!!!!!!! I'm ok with people that will visit for say an hour max it's the ones that stay for 3+ hours that drive me nuts!

I'm making hubby Shepards Pie tonight for dinner - it's his favorite thing :-)

Lol - nah now you can just blame the kids..."the house was clean"

Luckily it's usually only family that visit us now that we've moved so they know my house is 'hygienic but toy infested" - maybe I should get a plaque with that on it!!!
