Alright ladies, I need some input! Here's my story. I've been in the military (guard) for 10 years. My contract is up so the minute I get back from Iraq I have the option to get out.

DH has been in for 3 years, has 3 more to go, and he wants to do a full 20 years. I have a kick a$$ civilian career, so I dont need the retirement, but it is an incentive.

Anyway, we want to have kids when we get home. He wants to stay in and I feel like one of us should get out so we're not both deployed with children. But on the flip side, how do you walk away from something thats been a part of your life for ten years? The military is a lifestyle most people don't understand, and I don't know if Im ready to give that up.

That being said, I don't want to deploy with children... but am I ready to walk away??

AHHH what do I do???

Are you army or AF?  B/c AF deployments are almost volunteer opportunities.  10 years is a long time to just stop half way.

Im army, each deployment is a year, and def. not a volunteer opportunity!

Such a tough decision!

I think I would stay in though. Even with a great career, it is always nice to have more to rely on in retirement. And you like it right? So I think I would stay in.

Have you thought about crossing over to AF Guard or Reserve?  Ours are voluntary for now.
