So last night I helped throw a baby shower for a good friend of mine.  It was a great time...a really fun night.  Until one of the guests did that whole "put a ring on a chain and hold it over your hand to see how many kids and what genders you will have" thing.  If it moves back and forth, it means boy and if it moves in a circle, it means girl.  It will keep doing that until it accounts for all the kids you will have and then it stops.  All the women that already had kids had her do it to them and it was spot on...it would either circle or swing back and forth for each child in order and then it would stop after all children had been accounted for.  Other women that didn't have children yet had her do it and it would do its thing, predicting what they would have.  So I go up and say "let's see if this thing will tell me that I won't have kids!", half joking.  Well.....it stayed dead still and NEVER moved. :(  I was the only one it didn't move for.  Now I know all this is silly and it's an old wives tale but it really hit me since I was the only one that had this happen...and it was in front of like 15 women.  When I left the shower, I had a mini breakdown in the car on the way home.  Stupid, I know...I shouldn't put faith in those things.  But it still made me sad! :(  LAME!!

beatie - I am so sorry :(  Of course, don't put any truth to what happened....I have the best hopes for you and I know that we will see your BFP post soon!!!  I know those things are never easy - I have been to several baby showers lately and they are hard to sit through even though we of course are truly happy for everyone it happens to.

You WILL have your day soon!!!!!  Keep your head up girl !!! :)

I totally would have had a breakdown too.  Probably right there in front of everyone though, lol.  It WILL happen for you.  Hang in there!

chin up, beatie... I would be just as emotional, too...

It takes all of my happy thoughts from breaking down everytime I spend time with my 3 nieces... and my youngest bro & SIL are expecting their first end of May... I'm thrilled and happy for both of my brothers, but it does wear me down...

Huge hugs Beatie. I actually avoid babyshowers altogether. It's too difficult to look at all thos tiny little clothes and to sit there knowing that there is a possiblity that you may never experience that.

Totally understandable.  No matter how silly it was it would definitely hurt my feelings.  I had two instances yesterday where strangers asked about kids!  Knowing that my DH and I are having issues I know now not to ask certain questions or be insensitive becuase you just never now what the couple is going through.

Awww- poor thing!! :(  I would have felt the same way.  I get sad when I see a pregnant lady or a baby out anywhere...

I would have been balling on the way home too!  It's hard going through this, and that hearing information -- be it totally ridiculous and wrong -- is still gut wrenching.  Something like that would knock me down, but never for long!  Hope you are feeling better by today and forgetting all about that stupid game!!!  P.S. ALL Baby Shower games (in my humble opinion) are stupid -- they are too grueling for those of us TTC for so long!!  I love all other parts of Baby Showers, but never the games!

I would have responded the same way. I give you credit for holding it together until you got in the car. It;s totally natural to be a little touchy about this subject. Don't feel bad about it!
