I picked up my wedding dress this afternoon from David's Bridal and for some reason they special ordered 4" added to the length. Now I'm 5'11" but the regular dress fit me perfect. Now with an extra large slip and 3 3/4" heels the dress still drags on the ground. I am so upset! I was so excited to get my dress now I can't even look at it! I went by myself to pick it up and I didn't want to complain so I just took the dress and left. Then on the way home I kept thinking to myself WHY didn't I speak up? WHY didn't I say I wasn't happy? Now I feel like I've settled on my wedding dress. So after the hour drive home kicking myself for not saying anything... I called the shop in tears and let them know how sorry I was that I didn't speak up but I'm not happy with it and they want me to drive back out this week to try to fix it. I'm nervous because I read in a book how horrible their alterations are and I'm just worried my dress is going to look weird..... Oh and on top of that I've lost 8 lbs since I bought the dress and it's somehow tighter than I remember. Grr... David's Bridal you better redeem yourselves.

I bet they ordered it a size bigger. Since they charge you on all the alterations, it would make sense that they were trying to get more $ from you. I'm soo sorry hun. I do this sometimes too. It's good that you called right away though. (((HUGS)))

I'm sorry to hear this Soontobe, but hopefully they can rectify this. Unfortunately you're not the first bride to have this happen to (my cousin had bad experience with DB's and some other online gals I've met mentioned getting bad service too). Keep us posted on what they do and how they fix it.

aww that sucks! i've heard so many bad reviews about david's bridal...

Bummer, don't worry though- its just a hem right? If YOU have to pay for it- then maybe think about taking it somewhere else so you'll feel better???

Also its probably tighter b/c its not a sample. New dresses are typically a little tighter since they haven't been worn and stretched out from so many people trying it on.

Hang in there, it will come together (Hey- at least you fit your dress haha I can't even get into the original sample!)
- HMM :)

I just want to give you some piece of mind and let you know that I just picked up my dress from Davids Bridal last friday after alterations and they did a excellent job and it was actually better than I had imagined. They had to take in my sleves, take in my dress, put a bustle on it, and hem it and It turned out just fine.

Unfortunately Davids Bridal doesnt always specialize in customer service but you just have to be firm with them. I had someone helping me in the beginning who was horrible so I asked for someone else and was thrilled with the service. When in doubt go straight to the manager they will get it done.

Good luck and try not to worry because it is their job to make you happy and untill they do that just be a pain in their butt!!!

I'll let you know how it turns out. I felt so vulnerable because I was alone and didn't have the opinion of my mom of MOH to back up my feelings that it just wasn't what I wanted and I was so upset that I didn't speak up for myself when I wasn't really happy and the whole drive home where I had to think about it made it worse by the time I got home I was in tears and stuffed the dress in the closet. The manager I spoke with was very helpful and assured me the dress would be fixed and you're right it is just the hem as far as it being too tight... I didn't think about the sample being stretched that totally makes sense! I don't know why I didn't think of that. It's still wearable and I'm sure I'll lose a couple more lbs from all this wedding stress anyway. I just wanted some reassurance that it would be okay. You PW girls are the greatest!

I called to confirm that I was bring my dress back in and the girl said my account was noted to order a brand new dress... which I think I prefer rather than fix the one I have. I'm going to the store tonight... I'll let you know how it goes... and how long I have to wait for another one.

YAY! I'm glad it all worked out!

When I ordered my Maggie dress I consciously made sure I didn't tell them that I'm 5'10. I knew I wanted to wear flip flops (lol) and if they knew my height they might've ordered a tall size or something.

I hope the new dress is as perfect as the floor model was!

Exactly I'm 5'10" too and my FI is 6'2" I can't wear much of a heel. I think they make the dresses long so you have to pay for alterations... the regular height fit perfect! I'd have to wear stripper shoes to compensate for the 4 inches added to the dress and I'd look like a basketball player.
