Sorry girls, you know how important your advice to me is!  We've still not bought our sofa and I'm in the chaise long vs. normal sofa debate.  I feel like if we purchase a chaise long there will be more places for people to "perch" when they come over... however, I'm not sure if it would cause a wasted space.

This is our lounge/dining area:

Basically, the room is one big square and the sofa would go infront of the dining table as we'd have know wall to put it against.

So which type of sofa do you think would go better in the room?  (Ignore the colours).

If we go with option 1, do you think we should purchase two of them?  and put one against the window?  or just purchase 1?

If we go with option 2, do you think we should purchase armchairs to go near the window as well?

Thanks girls!! xx

I am completely biased, because I LOVE chaise longs and sectionals (when done right, not the puffy ones from the 90s).  :)  Your DH can be spread out on the chaise, while you can be on the couch portion cuddling wtih him.

Will you keep your rocking chair in this room?

What is the fourth wall that we can't see in the photos?  Is it a long, solid wall?

I like the idea of keeping people facing the windows & TV.  I'd get the chaise long with the chaise on the left.  Then against the fourth wall we can't see, I'd put one or two armchairs.  Some of these chaise type sofas have many different configuration options.  I might even suggest just getting one matching chair if you can get it to be a chair-and-a-half.  (side note: we have a chair-and-a-half and I can literally curl up in it and nap!)  If not, 2 regular sized chairs might be best.  If you ever have a large gathering, your dining set is right there to pull up some chairs from.

Good luck!!

I would get #2 and 2 arm chairs in this space. Love your room!

I looove chaise longs! they are super comfy and I agree with Athena, I would totally have Dh lounging in the chaise while I was on the couch portion cuddled with him. Perfection!

I also like Athena's idea on keeping the window open. how does that work with your scheme? If you did have to put it against the window is there enough room to leave some open space between lounge and window?

I love the idea of #2 with the armchairs...I think that gives plenty of seating and won't block the window as much as option #1 :)

Thanks girls, #2 it is!  Now we just need to find a comfy leather sofa that looks similar to that :)

Exciting times!

I'd probably put the chaise part of the sofa in line with the window but not against it so that there is enough room to move around it!  That way there's more room near the entrance of the living room and around the dining table! Whee :)
