I live in Massachusetts - not the ideal place for New Yorkers :P

Both FI and I are from MA, moved to FL (5 years for me, 8 years for FI) and wanted to come back. We love the culture and different seasons.

Parts are diverse, but other areas not so much. The housing is still expensive. People apparently haven't heard of the recession. The wages are higher though. I am in the legal industry. If you are in the medical field, Boston is great. We have some of the best hospitals. We are trying to get the best man to move here (originally from NY, but lives in FL and wants to leave) but he is having a hard time wanting to go anywhere but NY. NY is just too expensive!

I live in Albuquerque, NM!

Is it diverse? Oh, yeah

What do you think the average income is? According to Google: 35, 000

Average housing price? Depending on what side of town, but around $150,000 - $200,000 is about average

What kind of industry/jobs are there? Well, construction, engineering, call centers, and some manufacturing, administration, and Police force

Why do you love/hate it? I like it because it is really hot and dry in the summer. It gets cold in the winter, but we don't get the moisture. I love our sunsets and the Sandia Mountains. I love that you can see hot air balloons almost year round.

Would you recommend moving there? If you like being in a dry heat. I am not a party animal, so I don't know what the night life is like. We have a lot of resturants and movie theaters though. We are an easy drive to the mountains for camping, and hiking!

Vintage, I would have never thought of Chattanooga, but it sounds like an amazing place to live

Brianna, My brother has lived in San Antonio and moved from there to Austin a few years ago. He’s currently building a house there can’t stop saying how much he loves it there.

Moffy, I’m all about moving to AZ (FI isn’t sold because of the heat), so  Tucson is definitely on my short list so thanks for chiming in.

Keep them coming ladies!

I would love to live in CO, but alas there are no Trader Joe's (where my DH works)!  Seattle is my all time #1 place I want to move to.  The climate is for me, the jobs market looks good, and the housing is not horrible.

I live in Agoura Hills, CA...(~40 miles north of LA -- let's face it, it's in the burbs)

DIVERSITY: It's not very diverse : (

INCOME: I have no idea what the avg. income is, but it is a lot more than my DH and I make (we rent a condo while most families out here own large-ish homes)

REAL ESTATE: Housing is tricky in this market... some foreclosures can go for $220-$300 for a condo, while homes can be in the millions (we also have homes out here that are on ranches)

JOBS: Amgen is out here in Thousand Oaks; lots of corporate offices too.

LOVE V. HATE: I'm over Southern CA.  I feel bad for Northern CA-ians who have to share their water with us.  The economy is not doing so well (to put it lightly).  Traffic is a bitch!  It's too hot for my liking, and we have mild seasons.  The only thing I like about it is that we have beaches, lakes, mountains and deserts... It can be really be beautiful outside of the overpopulated cities!  Sigh... I'm ready for a change : )

RECOMMENDATION: I would definitely recommend Southern California if you like to experience a lot of different things (music, outdoors, sports and sporting events, restaurants, various attractions, museums, etc.) and don't mind over-crowding.

Moorpark, CA [30ish min North of Los Angeles]

Is it diverse? Extremely.

What do you think the average income is? It's considered a "bedroom" community. Meaning that people only live here and work elsewhere. The avg. income is rather high, est. almost $100K in 2008.

Average housing price? Everything is expensive and wayyy overpriced. Example: We purchased our house for $860K. No, your eyes are NOT fooling you. Yes, there is a 0 after the 86 and it's all followed by a K, as in THOUSAND! We do have a 3000 sq ft. 4 bdrm/ 3 bath house that is only 8 yrs old though.

But the avg. price NOW is about $500K for a house and around $250K for a 1 bdrm condo.

What kind of industry/jobs are there? You'd have to be willing to commute to LA or the valley, which isn't really that far. Well, depending on which freeways you have to take or if you can hop on the train. If you're willing to do either one of those things, the job industry is very diverse and everything is offered. Just might not be available at this time.

Why do you love/hate it? I absolutely LOVE my little bubble town. I grew up in Moorpark. Moved to San Diego for 3 yrs. Then came back to Moorpark. If you're from MP, you ALWAYS, always, ALWAYS come back.

Would you recommend moving there? I would def recommend. The community is wonderful. The people are awesome. The schools are top notch [the high school has won the Aca-deca championship numerous years]. It's a gorgeous place to be. It's only 20 min from the beach. And it's close, but not too close, to the hustle and bustle of LA.

People always say "move here if you can afford it", but to me, anyone can afford to live where ever they want. It's all a matter of spending wisely, saving money, and creating a budget. I never dreamed of living in a house that was close to $1M, but we're doing it. We're not struggling. If you want something, you make ends meet. It's just like having a child. There's never really the RIGHT time to have a baby, financially, unless you're rich, which most of us peons aren't. So you do what you have to do in order to make it work. Owning a home is just like that.

I live in a Suburb in SoCal, the city is called Chino Hills

Diversity:  Not a lot of diversity

Real Estate:  even in today's market the average house goes for $472,000

What kind of industry jobs:  we don't have any...it is mostly a commuter city

What do  you love/hate it:  I love Chino Hills, I am about 30 minutes from the beach, 30 minutes from downtown Pasadena, 30 minutes from the snow and 30 minutes from Disneyland..not so much a desert girl.

Recommend: I would so recommend moving there. The schools are wonderful, the streets are always clean, the neighbors are so nice. I grew up there so I am a little bias...but I love it.

all of this Colorado talk and this is all I can think of...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYGpelWYFx0

:)  I've never been to Colorado or Portland...I live in South Florida and I would not recommend anyone moving here.  :)

I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Is it diverse?  Getting to be a bit more diverse, but really lacking in this area.

What do you think the average income is? About $90,000...very white collared, lot's of professionals.

Average housing price?  $475,000

What kind of industry/jobs are there?  We thrive on oil & gas.  Tons of engineers, geologists, accountants, lawyers, etc.  Everything corporations need.

Why do you love/hate it?  Not a very friendly city, but we're so close to the mountains!!  I live five minutes from a provincial park which is great with a dog...and this proximity means deer, and on occasions cougars and bears head up to say "hi".  Lot's of job opportunities and the companies generally have lot's of perks.

I'm in San Jose, CA

Is it diverse? Yes, VERY

What do you think the average income is? The average income varies greatly amongst us, but no less then $50K and a combine household over 100K.

Average housing price? depends on the area, but median around $500,000.  My 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath 1650 sf townhouse was bought for $466,000 last December.

What kind of industry/jobs are there? Techonology, green and computer.

Why do you love/hate it? I really love San Jose.  The weather is GREAT!  The people are diverse so the dining is pretty awesome.  We are on the cutting edge of lots of technology and there are so many top notch companies in our midst like Apple, Google, and Yahoo which are shaping and reinventing the way we live life.  All that creative passion is inspiring.

Would you recommend moving there? Definitely if you love great weather, food, people and a proximity to mountains and beach.  San Francisco is a 40 minute drive and the city is awesome too.  Seriously though, how happy and content people are living in San Jose is tied into whether or not they can afford to live here.  Yes the housing market is higher than most, but living here and owning a home here is something I wouldn't give up.  Most of what I love and need (diversity, good weather, and family is here).  FI and I are able to live comfortably here and even if we had to move for his job, we would keep our house here b/c we would definitely come back first chance we get.  FYI, FI is currently based in Denver but come back home at least 2-3 weekends out of the month.
