The background -

The diet was given to me by a friend who began attending FA (Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous), which I have since started attending too.  The diet is Sugar and Flour free, the whole diet is based on the fact that some people have an "allergy" to Sugar, Flour and large quantities where as once they start they can't stop and so on. I don't know if consider myself 100% an addict, however a lot of the things I have read has lead me to believe so.

Basically there is the diet (found below), and there are meetings (can be found here http://www.foodaddicts.org/meetings.php) the meetings are free to attend, they do pass around a basket and everyone puts in $1 at the meeting I have been going too. Then there is sponsorship, much like AA, FA recommends a sponsor, so for me, I call my friend each morning and tell her what I'm going to eat. Once I do that, I don't have the urge to cheat - I would feel so guilty LOL. I was actually going to Jenny Craig when my friend told me she lost almost 100 lbs doing this - in under a year, and feels amazing. Believe it or not my Jenny Craig consultant started this plan too !! It sounds pretty hard core , but I can guarantee it works, and you won't feel deprived. : ) Oh and one more thing, I guarantee you won't be hungry - I feel like I'm eating a lot of food each day. : )

Here is the diet.
Breakfast
1/3 C Oatmeal Plain or 1.5 Oz Cheerios Plain
and
6oz Fruit
and
4oz protien (could be Milk, 2 eggs, meat, n/f plain yogurt, light cheese)

Lunch

8oz Salad + 2 tbls dressing (light dressing, sugar should not be in first 4 ingrediants)

6oz cooked veggies (non starchy)
4oz protien (meat, poultry or fish)
6oz fruit

Dinner
Same as lunch w/out the fruit

Steff, are you having fat free milk with your cheerios for breakfast or just eating them plain?

I'm using the protein part of my breakfast and having Fat Free milk... You could also eat Oatmeal, fruit, and a yogurt for instance. :  ) I am just thinking Fat Free milk is less calories so I will usually put it in my oatmeal or cheerios.  My friend suggested an extra glass of milk in the day since we are women and need the calcium too.

I measured my cheerios in a measuring cup and 1.5oz is 6 bites!  Please tell me you meant a cup and a half of cheerios?  I'm hungry!!  LOL

I started something similar two weeks ago, except it's more about insulin and how some of us just can't regulate it. Why some people with diabetes get overweight, etc. We weren't meant to eat processed grains, we put too many carbs into our diet and our bodies don't know what to do with it so it turns to fat. My parents and I lost 6 pounds (each of us) by going on this for two weeks. You can eat all the meat, nuts and veggies you want, as long as they have a low glycemic index. Our bodies want protein, and all the carbs we need come from vegetables and fruit. But of course on this diet for the first couple of weeks you are supposed to cut out as many carbs as possible, so no fruit unless its cherries which have a very low glycemic index. My boyfriend calls it the caveman diet, but it's working, and after a while your body stops craving so many carbs.

Yes, this is similar to the Mediterranean diet or the South Beach diet both of which I have tried.  The only difference is getting to eat fruit from the very start of which on SB you cannot the first two weeks.  I lost 17lbs on SB once upon a time.  It will work, you just have to stay focused and not cheat.

I did South Beach, Atkins, Jenny, WW, Medifast OMG you name it.... This is something that is very healthy and truely works - if I can keep it up continuously is yet to be determined considering that my birthday is this weekend and I really love cake, but we won't go there on this board.
