Time limit on toasts?

Hey everyone, we're having 4 toasts total. My mom and my brother and his two best friends (family is a bit different on his side)

Are you asking people a time limit to the toasts.

I don't think we want the toasts longer that 1:30. Can we talk to them and tell them we roughly want it around a minute or so?

Are you giving time restraints?

We are having so much going on. Lots of different singers and musicians. I'm playing the cello my FI is playing the drums. We're doing a group song with 4 of the groomsmen etc etc. So were planning out all the entertainment. If we just had toasts I wouldn't care but everything is getting pretty long.

Peronally, I don't want to tell them a limit etc. We actually haven't even discussed this... BUT in your case since you have so much going on you may want to just give them a little heads up. You should be fine on time- unless you have some ramblers :) haha

I wouldn't give them a specific constrant but I would let them know a brief meaningful toast is appreciated so that you can keep things rollin'

Right now here is our set up:

Entrance of Bridal/Groom party

Entrance of Bride/Groom

Introduction Dance (FI and I have a planned choreographed dance with the whole dance floor covered in bubble wrap)

Bride/Groom Toast-all the thank you's to everyone

Toast-Groomsman A

Acoustic guitar solo-Groomsman A

Jass Song-Vocals done by bridesmaid A

Toast-Groomsman B

Groomsman B-Guitar with bride/groom vocals

Toast-Mother of Bride

MOther/Son Dance

Jass Song-Vocals by Bridesmaid B

Hip Hop Poem-friend of Groom (he's an amazing hip hop artist)

Slideshow

Toast-Bride's Brother

Finale Bride on cello, FI on drums, Groomsman A on Vocals, Groomsman B vocals

It's like a whole show and we're trying to cut it down. After the finale, everyone just dances the whole night with no interruptions except garter toss, boquet toss, and last dance

And were thinking of the Anniversary Dance as well

We have tons of musicians and singers in the family!

Personally, I wouldn't put a time constraint on the toasts. We're also a bit concerned with the time but I'd feel bad putting a time restraint on their speeches. Maybe instead of capping the speeches, you can cap one of the other entertainment things? I wouldn't anticipate it being much of a problem though b/c people usually don't speak for too long. And even if they do, you only have 4 toasters, so the chances of it putting you too far off schedule are very slim. But, that's just my opinion...you know your family and friends best and therefore, now how they'd respond to your request.

I wouldn't put a limit but might ask them to be mindful of time. Guests can feel tortured if all the hoopla lasts too long :)
