tipping the tiffany & co sales lady?

So I have a lot of Tiffany peices and it never crossed my mind to tip,but today I went to get my gift for my man of honor and the price after engraving was $350.20 (side note: FI is going to kill me)I gave her $351.00 and she,in a bitchy tone,said "oh and the rest is my tip?"....ummmm I am not sure what it was all about since noone has ever said something like that to me....All these years have I been wrong by not tipping?!?This is my local T&CO so now I feel very weird.Oh and no it wasnt engraved yet and wont be there.

I wouldn't have tipped either. That's bizarre.

yes...and she didnt even like lol or anything...she just walked to the station with the peice right after saying it.I even went in there knowing xactly what peice I wanted...made me very uncomfortable.well ladies 3 more days.....wed is the rehersal dinner :) no more tears of stress very soon!!!

NO way!! I hate Tiffany's for just this reason!! They are on commission!! There is NO reason why she should expect a tip!

My friend worked for Tiffany's...then switched companies....she told me this story:

A couple were shopping at Tiffany's for an e-ring. It was the first place they went, and didn't want to feel rushed into anything, and thought they should look around. They asked the sales associate "where is XYZ jewelry store?" The sales associate told them it was just 2 blocks up the road, which is more like 2 miles!! They started walking!! The couple though maybe she was just mistake, maybe they passed it...so they called XYZ jewelry company. THey were less than 1/2 way there when it started to rain, XYZ sent a cab to pic them up and bring them to their store, they also paid the cab driver to take them back to their car. I felt soo bad for this couple...

well I have to say,I did kind of tell my friend who was with me,loud enough for her to hear "ya your tip is fix your roots" as we walked out. *blushs*because I can be so caddy

my personal fave "tip": dont eat yellow snow LOL

You know, I have a friend that works at Tiffany's, I'll have to ask her what they have as some sort of "internal protocol" or something.

i'm pretty sure you don't tip at t&co. crazy. maybe the lady was just in a bad mood? i know there are certain rules with nicer stores...like no negotiating discounts at neiman marcus (that's a whole other story!)...but i've never heard of tipping...unless they're bringing you a cocktail or appetizer!
