to veil or not to veil?

Is anyone not wearing a veil?

I've been having a really hard time with this part. I didn't actually think about my veils really and I made some DIY ones which turned out great but once on me I wasn't wild about the style. Btw on a military base, the local bridal shops offer zero selection, hence the DIYing.

At first I wanted something big and fun but now I think I don't want one or I want it to be very sleek and crisp. And I honestly think the longer ones (chapel, cathedral, waltz etc) offer a leaner line, no? Ugh, I'm so confused. If you don't wear a veil, what are some "bridal" looking things you can put in your hair? How would I attach blooms? Just stick them in?

I kins like em, even though I will NOT wear it over my face. I'm getting mine through ebay!

At first, I thought I wasn't going to wear a veil. Then when I bought my dress, the consultant put one on me and all of a sudden, I wanted one. But now, I'm wearing an ostrich feather comb (PIB) and decided that a veil would be too much with it so I've nixed the veil again! You can always use silk blooms and attach them to a comb or hair pin...or use bobby pins to pin real ones to your hair. My cousin had real orchids in her hair when she got married...just used bobby pins!

Champagne, I've been struggling with this question too (I even posted on the forum about it a while ago).

Several people told me, this is your one and only chance to wear a veil. If you know you will not regret not wearing one, then don't wear it. If you think there's a chance to regret it if you don't wear a veil, then do wear a veil.

Now, it's true that when I tried on a veil at the bridal shop, I did feel like a bride. But honestly, I don't need the veil to feel great on my wedding day and know that I look great. In fact, the veil is making other decisions more complicated: I want a flower, but where do I put it, how will it look with the veil, and so forth. So my latest inclination is NOT TO WEAR A VEIL AT ALL. Berkeley is pretty windy (wedding is at the end of May) so having the veil blowing in the wind might be pretty but it also might be a big pain...And so I am thinking of defying convention and not wearing a veil. Besides, my FMIL really wants me to wear a veil, so that might have spurred my decision too.

Another idea I had was to not wear the traditional veil but some other sheer fabric around my head, there's a photo in my biography that depicts it well.

And a final comment, have you found your dress? If you have, then the dress itself might give you an idea.

Yah I agree Champ. I am choosing to wear the long, sleek look. I find it more sexy, less poofy, etc. Mines a little past fingertip. I love the look...

I've decided not to wear a veil - I tried one on while I was dress shopping, and it just gave me this "ick" feeling. I love the way that veils look on other brides, but they're just not for me. I'm still undecided as to whether I'll wear anything in my hair as a "replacement," but at the moment, I like the idea of just having a simple, wavy down-do with no other decoration - just drop earrings.

JD - I love the idea of a simple wavy down-do! Do you have a specific style/image in mind? It seems to me that a veil looks great with an updo, but with a down-do it seems a little superfluous.

smilkova - I've saved some images in my profile under hair and make-up that show the types of wavy down-dos I really like - including aching's profile picture!
