Your wedding dress is the focal point of your big day.  The bridesmaids should be adorned to complement you but not outshine “the” dress! Working with all your bridesmaids can be challenging because let’s face it, they are all unique and have different body types. So, how do you pick out the bridesmaid dress without a lot of fuss? Check out our top five tips!

1.  Do Your Homework

YOU are the bride and while you care about your bridesmaids, it’s ultimately up to you. Look around for wedding inspiration pics (like Pinterest) to help narrow down the search and bring your vision to life. I recommend a shopping day with just your Maid of Honor to try on different styles. This will help determine what works best and inspire you to make a few selections.

2.  Present Two to Three Options

Don’t overwhelm them. You want your girl’s opinions but when you present dress options, try to limit it to just 2 or 3 dresses. This will keep them focused.

3.  Respect Different Body Types

Your maids are probably all different shapes and sizes. You do not want to select a dress that is going to enhance their flaws. It can be challenging to find a one style fits all; but it’s possible. If this proves to be a brutal challenge, pick a color and let the girls have different dress styles. It’s fashionable, functional, and it looks chic!

4.  Pick A Color

By the time you get to selecting bridesmaid dresses, you should already have your wedding colors nailed down. Choose a color that complements your wedding dress and contrasts with the wedding flowers.

5.  Fashionable, but Functional with a Feature

You know the old adage, “Ohhh and you can wear this dress again!” Let me guess, it was a bright powder blue gown with puffy sleeves? These days your bridesmaids really can wear the dress again. If you are expecting them to pay for their own dress, it’s really important that they have a future together!

If it can be dyed black you are in great shape.

I had 4 dresses that I never wore again. It was very sad.

The dress I just bought for my wedding will be altered so I can wear it again and again. I am cutting from floor length to Tea length taking the left over material to make shoulder caped sleeves and adding the tulle under it for a wonderful Tea Lengt 50's style dress for my cruise this summer.

The dresses that my girls wore can be worn again and that was one main reason that it did take us a little bit longer to decide.  We also got them on sale, which made it even better.  : )

I wanted to make sure that my ladies could wear the dresses again.  All three girls chose dresses that looked good on them in colors they looked good in.
