find his biological parents  or at least his mother he was born in scotland and adopted by a military couple and grew up here in the united states. I have some information I don't know if my friend would appreciate it being aired on a forum though. I just want to know though how do I start I have the name of the hospital. Do I contact them? What are the rules regarding adoption are they different than the U.S.? If anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it.

I was also born in Scotland and that’s where I went to find my birth mother. It was actually quite simple. I contacted the birth registrar in Edinburgh http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/ and they sent me forms to fill out and had to send them my adoption certificate. with that they were able to get my birth certificate with my birth moms name o it and then it was pretty simple. It all depends on how much info she has available ie if she updated her electoral lists etc….

The right to look for a birth parent is 100% up to the child (once they turn 18) in Scotland and the birth family cannot look or them.

Good luck to your friend., if you (or your friend) need ANY info please don’t hesitate to contact me
