I will start off by saying I don't want this post to come off as I'm being a B**** but I feel like I need to voice my opinion.

There are multiple scientific researches that prove vaccines do NOT cause autism. I wish people would stop saying that. The whole story about that came from Jenny McCarthy who then turned around and agreed that it didn't cause her child to develop autism. We live in a world where people are fear mongered into believing everything they read. Not to mention none of it is backed by real scientific studies.  If you honestly want to be that ignorant to not protect your child from deadly diseases then I feel sorry for you. If you do research right now, you will notice a large increase in multiple diseases in the US (whooping cough.. measels etc) due to the fact that parents are refusing to get their children vaccinated.

The "goop" that they put in newborns eyes is done within a few hours after being born. My son didn't have it done till he was around 3 hours old. This is mandatory in all states. They don't do it because they think you have STD's. The baby can pick up ANY type of infection while coming through the birth canal which in return can cause blindness. Why even take the chance?

Agian I don't want it to come off as tho I'm being rude but it pisses me off when people say false information.

First of all, I never said that I was not going to vaccinate and my post was wondering what others may have found out or learned in their research or from their provider. This was not intended to be a debate. I know there are different trains of thought on this matter. There is also scientific information to the contrary which is why for my part, I am doing my research on both sides before making any final decisions. I think that is a very wise and reasonable thing to do. I do know of people who have had to ask to have the "goop" that is put in their eyes to be done later to allow time to establish breastfeeding and bonding, so every place does not administer it the same and some try to do it right away. Also, if a parent chooses, you can sign a waiver refusing to have it done, law or not-the same with other procedures. I am not saying this is what people should do or definitively what I will do, but a simple statement that it can be done. I was stating the gonorrhea statement directly from a reputable children's hospital. They, not I, said that is the reason for giving it. I have seen this come across in other literature as well.

While it is true that some people believe everything they read, some people believe everything that a doctor tells them as well with no questions asked simply because it is coming from a doctor. I think it behooves anyone to do their own research, ask questions, etc. There should be no problem with this.

As for Jenny McCarthy, her situation which I do not know all the details of, I am sure is not the only one that raised an issue as to whether vax'ing was the culprit of her child's or any other child's condition. I have seen this other places and she nor her child were ever mentioned. I am not saying, nor have I said that the vax'ing did or did not cause the autism as I do not know.

At the end of the day, each parent has to make the decisions they think is best for their child regardless of what others may think about it. Hopefully though, whatever decisions are made are informed ones.

I'm sorry, my post was not directly tied to yours and in no way was I attacking you for wanting to talk about it.  I am merely sensitive on this issue and I am passionate about it.  I think most people should be like you and ask as many questions as they can and do their own research to come to a decision based off evidence instead of hearsay and opinion.

As for the "goop" and establishing breastfeeding and bonding I understand.  When I had my child the first thing we did was skin to skin contact and then breastfeeding, which is why the "goop" didn't come till about the 3 hour mark.  I am still exclusively breastfeeding so I can assure you it does not mess with that.  Where I live, if you do sign a waiver, which is very hard to get, then you will be contacted by DSS.  Why go through that?

The problem most parents have is that they correlate any change in behavior to something that may or may not have anything to do with vaccines.  It is human nature.  So when their children start to exhibit signs of autism then they immediately say, oh it was the vaccine, there's no way it could have developed on its own.  When in fact, there is no evidence of that.  The rate of autism is the same.  There are other things that do effect autism, but vaccines are not one of them.  In fact, vaccines have been around longer than penicillin.  Yet autism rates are rising.  This is from women waiting longer to have children, and other environmental circumstances.  I won't bore you with this all but it is not worth the risk!

We are going with what his pedi recommends, I trust him as a professional :-) I think there are pros and cons to both but in the end the pros out weight the cons. My best friend's sister has cerebral palsy due to a vaccine but that was also about 30 years ago and they have changed things since then. She still vaccinated all 3 of her daughters she just had the dose of the vac that caused the cerebral palsy split up.

Personally I would feel awful if my son contracted some diease that could have been pervent with a shot :-)

My dr.'s husband is a pediatrician. He sees babies die EVERY DAY from diseases that could have been prevented by a simple vaccination. That's all I needed to hear. I couldn't live with myself if my kid died because of that.

Gee...thanks for the attack.

I did say that I wanted to look more into it, which means I am not going to be ignorant about it.  Like so many ladies on here, I am new to this as I am only 21 weeks pregnant.  Apparently you are the "expert" and I should just blindly heed your every word, but then I would be doing no better than what you just specifically complained about, and that is that some parents make decisions on what they hear rather than actual research.  I will have done my research when it comes time to make any decisions.  You are entitled to your opinion, as am I.  I didn't say I was an expert.  I simply wanted to put some info out on the table.  That is all.  The negativity was uncalled for.  You can state your opinion without being rude.

Read it how you want to. I specifially said I wasn't trying to be rude. And in neither one of my posts did I say I was an expert.

The information you put out on the table isn't reliable. If you are going to make a post about how vaccines and autism are related then provide everyone with the information as to where you found that out.

To vaccinate or not is one of those personal decisions that we all as mothers have to make based on what is best for our family.

I think this is such a sensitive topic because we don't want to do anything that is considered wrong or endangering to our children (and there is research to go both ways), and because views on this subject are so widely varied inevitable someone will always be 'wrong'....add that to all sorts of hormone shifts we have during prenancy and beyond...it's the perfect storm.

There is wonderful research and books about vaccinations (I personally recommend The Vaccine Book - I'm a Dr. Sears fan).

For me personally my DH and I chose to forgo all newborn procedures in the hospital ('eye goop', genetic screening, glucose testing, Hep B, and Vit K - although we did give the Vit K to my son since he was going to be circumcised -a whole other discussion). It was not a big deal to decline any of it (we live in CO), I also was never contacted by any agency to discuss my decisions so obviously that varies by state. Other than that we follow the traditional outlined schedule.

Again what it comes down to is doing what you think is right for your family...and understanding that it may be 'wrong' for someone else...and that's OK! We all in the same boat...trying to protect and raise our children to be the healthiest, smartest, and most productive members of society as we can.

Thanks Aubrie for sharing with us!!! I do hope that we can get things back on a better track. Again, I never intended for this to be a debate, rather an open dialogue where we could share information, perspectives, ask questions, etc. to help us all in making informed decisions. Overall, I think good points were made by all for consideration along with the other research we may each be doing. Thank you everyone for your contributions and let's just try to consider how we are sharing our perspective going forward so that no one is feeling alienated or attacked. As Aubrie said, we are all in the same boat and we all want the best for our children. How we go about that may be different, but that is okay! : ) Have a great day ladies!
