I have really NOT enjoyed this part of the whole wedding process.  It irritates me when I go into the boutique wedding dress shops and can't find a single dress that I can even slip over my hips.  I have been going by myself to try on things because it is less embarrassing than having to do it with an audience.

Well... I went this weekend with someone (for the first time) who wore a size 2 gown herself when she went down the aisle, and I got so frustrated that I couldn't fit that I even had her put on one of the gowns just so I could get an idea of what it looked like on someone.

I just wish that it were easier for us out there who are not 8,10,12's ... and I have been wanting to vent to someone who will understand... and I know that if anyone can, it's you wonderful lovely ladies!

I felt that way too.  I am a curvy girl, and although I haven't gone to shop for THE dress, I did go buy my reception dress, and I was so embarrassed that I didn't even want to come out of the dressing room and stand on the platform in front of everyone.

I do wish that more bridal boutiques carried larger sample sizes, I mean they have to realize that all brides are not a size 2!!!

I would suggest that if you just want to get an idea of what styles would look good on your body type, go to David's Bridal and try on some of the different styles of dresses, they carry sample sizes up to a size 30.  You don't have to buy a dress from there, but at least you can get an idea of what silhouette looks great on you.

((hugs))

Thanks Chances.  I'm an 18, so I was thinking something might fit-ish, but I think I will go to some of the other bigger names to try stuff on.  I think that some of us just fall in like with the ones that flatter us (fit us), instead of the ones that we *love*.

I am a 18-20 in street clothes it depends on the cut.  So I ended up getting a size 20 reception dress, it's a little big but I will get in taken in at some point.

I feel your frustration and know that you WILL find the dress and fall in love and will not think about the weight per se.  I'm thankful for someone sharing a secret who was also a bride to be and I'm on my way to enhance myself for myself.

We all can't be a size 2 but I now know that I can achieve my desired weight loss and be happy in my skin. Countdown to happiness thanks to Mary and her little natural secret that she shared with me!

I so despise ppl that loose weight and say they changed their eating habits and exercise...BULL CRAP if you know you had additional help.

My confidence has increased two notches since I loss 23 lbs. during my first month. I will inbox you the details.

xoxo

I am also sooooo interested to know the secret to weight loss :) aklovesmc I feel your pain I am a bridal 18 and I hate when the sales lady puts a gown in front of me and tells me to imagine what it looks like on... "You want me to do WHAT?" This industry is so blind. I guess "fat" girls don't find love.

I hear all you ladies! I work for a plus size retailer and I gotta tell you there still aren't enough options for us. It's an untapped market. C'mon designers, get with it. When I was shopping for a bridesmaid dress for my brother's wedding, they only had a 16 for me to try on. I wore an 18 at the time. When she put the 16 on me, she said I would need to order the size 20. so that's what I ordered and it was HUGE!

So don't always listen to the salesgirls either. Make sure you try on something in your size and if they don't have your size, don't chance it!

LOL.  I have since discovered how much a corset can really change everything.  I finally found "her" and I love her... just took a while to find :)

I hear you .... I went to an Alfred Angelo shop and they only had samples in 12 to try on and I'm an 18-20.  So I finally went to Davids and tried on a bunch but they didn't have a lot of variety.  I ended up doing what aklovesmc said and choosing one that I "didn't look that huge in."  I've never really been a dress person anyway so I'm going with what fit the best.
