I ordered my worm composting system last night!! I am sooo excited! I love the idea  - worms eat your kitchen scraps and turn it into compost!

It sounded gross to me at first but it's a way to compost kitchen scraps all year round and I have been reading and reading about it and the worms stay enclosed so you don't see them and there's no smell - the two things I was most worried about.

Here's what I ordered:

And this book came highly recommended:

It is soooo easy to set up the system and only requires adding kitchen scraps as you have them and harvesting compost about every 4 months - couldn't be easier. I'm going to place my system in my downstairs laundry room.

Ewwwww! WORMS!!

I'm only kidding, of course :) I want to try this too, but DH shot me down (again). It was hard enough to get him to agree that we needed a compost tumbler - I think this is one battle I won't win! Lol

How big is it? You must take pics when you get it set up :) I hope it works well!

Oh how awesome!!  Ewwness to the worms... but if there's no smell that's a plus.  Let us know how it goes!

It's been a few days and it's going great! They love watermelon rind, and no, no smell!!

I looked at sooo many of these! I believe I ended up ordering the system off of amazon.com then found a local source for the worms on craigslist - but there are tons of mail-order sources for the worms.

That's awesome!  What do you need to do when you harvest the compost?  We have been debating the best way to go about adding composting to our lives.

The system I got (see above) you just set up a new tray with bedding and place it on top and the worms (most of them) migrate up there then you just harvest the bottom tray of compost!

The system is not fully stacked like in the picture above when you first set it up - you add additional trays as the worms are nearly done converting all the bedding and scraps into compost in the previous tray.
