my friend is getting married in September and needs a recommendation. I'll say within a budget of $3500.. preferably someone cheaper of course!

Her wedding is in September 2009.

Thanks in Advance.

I absolutely adore Justin Fone - I think his packages may start at $3500, for no Super 8 film, so she could check him out :)  Not sure how much Lorimer Works charges, but they did *Wil*'s video, and it was breath-taking!

I'm using Lumitone in Concord.  They record in HD, which is a big plus for me! Check out their reviews on Yelp.

Mike w/Fish Eye Film...I got a quote of $1700, he did a friends wedding & the video turned out great!

I used Lumitone. I haven't received my video yet (totally my fault) but their work that I've seen is awesome! I don't know if their prices have gone up, but I paid around $3K.

What is she looking for?  Documentary style/ traditional?

i posted this here
http://www.projectwedding.com/post/list/videography-r-u-doing-it

what i found was in documentary style there's not too much editing, although there can be, and it's pretty straight forward.  recording of the day, not usually background music, although you can ask for that.  also what i noticed is that sometimes it's a little "shaky." a lot of videographers offer this option as their base package or their only package.  the other style is very cinematic.  think like wil's video. many of them require you to request a package from them to get specific pricing.
here's what i found:

documentary-ish:
Bay area VDO
Joshua Burgin
  cheapest i've found...is pure documentary
Bigtime Video Services
c3videography

cinematic:
blue moon productions
Lumitone
  starts at 2699
Burkart Video  starts at 2699 for cinematic, 1199 for raw footage, one man 6hrs
Lorimerworks  3600-4500.  but hecan make to fit your budget but will cut back on hours/footage as apply.  wouldn't offer any less than 2500 for a quote though cuz of the quality of his work. on his page

Hope that helps get you started.  I ended up going with Lorimerworks for a negotiated package.  Most will be able to work with you on this too..
