I fight with myself (and fi) about this all the time...

I am a teacher (a catholic school teacher none the less), i am also the track and cross country coach, tutor, and head of the sign language club at my school. I live in the town i teach in, as well as my dad owns a very well known chain of businesses here.

I have my ribs tattooed, entire right side covered in colorful plumeria flowers from top of ribs to hip, as well as my left shoulder tattooed with a black and grey rose. i love my tattoos. my fi (who is covered ... sleeve, ribs, leg sleeve ...) loves my tattoos. my friends love them, you know how it goes ...

so my problem is - i want more! being a teacher, i would never let them be visible in school, but what about after school? summer is approaching, and if i want to go food shopping in a tank top, or on a run in a sports bra ... should i worry about if parents see me like this? my principal (and priest of the church, go fig) know about the tattoos, so it wouldnt put my job in jeopardy, but should i worry? fi yells at me all the time "its beautiful, show it off!" but i get soooo nervous! I am supposed to be viewed as an educated, role model - which i KNOW relate nothing based on tattoos, but you know how people are ... especially parents who are paying boatloads of money for ME to educate their children.

sometimes it makes me want a different profession, but i LOVE LOVE LOVE my job. just was wondering if anyone was in the same boat, or felt this way before.

I have many tattoos and some of them are visible while I'm at work. I'm a nurse- sometimes this can be offensive to patients but it is who I am. I would say that you love the artwork enough to have it on your body forever and ever amen, that you should be proud enough to share it! Besides people love you for you- not your tattoos.

I think if your employer knows about your tats then let them out :) Tattoos are becoming more and more accepted through out society and if you keep them covered while at school then you are good to go!

I work at a bank as a teller as I finish up my college degree in Business Management. I have a small tattoo on my ankle (my mothers name) that has never been an issue at my job. However, I'm gettin extenisive work done on the inside of my left calf this fall. (English ivy leaf work) I'm wearing a tea length dress at the wedding, so it will be visible then (just like I want it) but at work I'm going to have to give up skirts. But that is a small price to pay for having the ink I want.
