We have not started a registry yet and I have no clue where to begin. How did you decide on items like car seats and strollers?  Are there some good websites to compare products?

I just looked at what I liked and then read reviews and compared them based on the reviews on sites like BRU, BBB, amazon, etc.

I was really overwhelmed with the registry process too and actually just started it a few weeks ago around 30 weeks (my shower is really late, I'll be 38 weeks).

I did decide on a few of the bigger ticket items early - the biggest being the car seat.  I bought the Baby Bargains book and actually used that quite a bit.  I decided on the Chicco car seat (Keyfit 30) because I knew a lot of people that had used it and it had a high safety rating.

For the stroller I had a bit of a harder time. I did look at the reviews in Baby Bargains but after asking the ladies here I decided just to go to the store (Buy Buy Baby for us) and test out the different options.  There are a ton of different strollers and so many options - you really just need to see them for yourself and see what fits your needs.

For other things I honestly looked at the reviews on Amazon (which is where we registered) and spoke to a few friends that have had children recently.

Ditto to everything Veronika said! I also subscribe to Consumer Reports, they have a great kid/baby section

For me, the best resource for researching items has been Amazon.  You can pour through peoples reviews and see what's popular for a lot of different baby items.

I have also found it to be super helpful to talk to other moms about items that they found to be especially useful and what brands they liked the most.

Also as Veronika already mentioned, a lot of people have found the Baby Bargains book to be a good resource too.

We got a subscription to consumer reports when we were picking car seats and such for the safty ratings.

but

I really like buzzillions.com for customer reviews you can put in a stroller your looking at and it will pull all the customer reviews from diffrent websites about that item.

I read the reviews on Amazon, BRU, & Buy Buy Baby when researching for baby products. We ended up buying the Chicco Keyfit 30 after reading many reviews. When choosing a stroller, we went to BBB to test them out. Like Flats said, there are so many to choose from, your best bet would be to go and test them out yourself to see which one suits you the best.

I agree with what has been said. We registered for and received the Chicco Miro travel system. The car seat is a KeyFit 30 and I like the stroller as well (hence going with the travel system). You can also check out www.consumersearch.com. You don't have to pay for this particular site. Hope this helps!

I loved the Baby Bargains book too. I used that to help with all my major decisions and also read BRU and Amazon reviews on certain items. I got the Chicco Key Fit as well and love it as well as our BOB stroller. There are a lot of decisions to make. It can be overwhelming. But that book really helps!
