Wedding Favors - Good Idea?

Now I have to say that the search for wedding favors has been driving me CRAZY! I cannot find any that I like - no matter what the price range. Also, I have never really liked the IDEA of favors....

But...

My grandmother, who passed this August, was FAMOUS for her recipe for Peanut Butter Balls. While I was online looking at favor boxes I found some made for filling with truffles. I was thinking of having my bridal party get together and all of us making peanut butter balls and packaging them ourselves. On the favor table I would also put a picture of my grandmother along with a short story about her and how very much she will be missed. I won't be including the recipe as it is a family secret :)
Now my grandmother lived out of state and not everyone is familiar with her or her recipe BUT they are always a hit when I make them.

I think this will add a personal touch as well as giving me a neat way to honor my grandmother.....

Thoughts?

I think that's a great idea! So personal and definitely makes the favors much more meaningful! No one's allergic to nuts, right? Er...well, if they are, they can just pass it on to one of the other guests and save the box, hehe. I know a lot of people think favors are a waste of money and throw them away, but I don't! It should be fun to make them w/ your friends, too.

Now that is a great idea. Most wedding favors are cheesy in my opinion. Anything that can be eaten is always a good way to avoid buying a bunch of stuff no one will ever use. Besides this is a great way to honor your grandma, she would be proud =). Very well thought out idea and it will give you some bonding time with your girls =o)

I think tht is an awesome idea. I love food as favors. I feel it doesn't get wasted as easily. I think it is a great way to make it personal and will also make for some fun memories with the bridal party.

I really like that idea. I would appreciate that favor more so than a matchbook or something I would throw away...

Thanks for the input everyone! I am really getting attached to this idea. I just came up with it last night and wanted to bounce it off someone. Looks like its a winner :)

If you're from San Francisco or the SF Bay Area, Kamei Restaurant Supply is a really cheap store to get those little candy cups to put the truffles in so they won't leave grease stains on the boxes (because of the oil from the peanut butter).

Thanks Kathy, I appreciate the tip! They are actually covered in chocolate but I still needed the cups. I will look them up :) Thanks again!
