Weight to Measurement relations?????

I'm just very curious.  Weight and size and measurements are so incredibly relative and so different for everyone.  I have a friend who looks about my body size but a little shorter but she wears size 2 and I wear at least an 8 or 9, and up from there.  I can't even squeeze into size 2.  Now we probably weigh close to the same and I'm a bit taller.  So I'm wondering what everyone else has noticed about it.  I'm wanting to lose the size and not necessarily weight. If you're comfortable and know your measurements list as many as you know or want to.  I just want to see if anyone has relation with sizes and weight and height.  I'm soo confused.  I can definitely see now that it is not just a little equation (lose 10 pounds=lose -- inches), but I wish it were.  Then maybe clothes wouldn't be so freakin complicated to buy.

for me:

height:  5'6"

weight:  147-148 (with some water weight because I weighed just now)

hips (around the butt): 39

belly where I wear my pants: 33

waist: 28

bust:  36

arms: 11

thighs: 22

so instead of wanting to lose so and so pounds I just want to fit into certain clothes. grr..

There are a lot of girls who are what is known as "skinny fat": yes they have a small jeans size but they have next to no muscle tone and most of their body weight is fat.It will be much harder for these women to lose weight because, as they exercise, their muscles replace their body fat and they stay the same size and maybe even gain some weight even though they definitely look better in their clothes. If you are one of these women, you will have to work twice as hard to first get into shape before you start losing weight.

Some of it is how your body distributes your weight. Me for example: I have a GHETTO booty. I carry all of my weight in my hips and thighs, but have a relatively flat stomach. My waist measurement is a size 14 and my hips measurement is a size 18. This makes it VERY difficult to find jeans that fit! It also means that people guess that I weigh less and wear a much smaller size than what I do. I always have to lose 20 lbs before I drop a size.

A lot of it has to do with height. The taller you get, the skinnier you look even if you wear the same size as someone who is shorter than you.

By the way, there's no such thing as a "butt" measurement, the widest measurement around your butt and hips is your actual hip measurement. lol ;) Your measurements are almost a perfect size 8. (28" waist, 40" hips) If you want to be a size 2, you'll have to lose 3 inches in your waist and 3 inches in your hips, but you might have already known that.

Great question Ladyhannah, and thanks PB for the informative response!  You are right in that height is key.  I outweigh a couple of my friends but look thinner because I am MUCH taller than them.   It's also about how your body weight is distributed....I am lucky in that it's relatively evenly spread over my body (hourglass shaped) though I definitely carry weight on my mid-back (ewwwww, back flab!!!  lol), stomach, butt, and thighs.

I'm not sure if this will help of not but I'll post mine since I just had them taken today.  I will say that I am a 0/2 in dresses but pants I wear a 4 or sometimes a 6 because I have very muscular thighs.

Arms: 9"

Bust: 30" (sad)

Waist: 25.5"

abdomen: 30"

Hip: 36"

Hope that helps.

My weight is at 125.

theprincess bride I know that I didn't use technical terms for the measurement, but I wanted to make it clear where I was measuring.. what I called hips is just the place most people wear pants even though the hip measurement is around your butt.  so I included both.

and where did you get those pictures?  was it a website?

thanks everyone for the information.

Lorienne... lucky us.. that's part of why I guess people assume I weigh less because my body is pretty evenly proportioned.  the only problem spots I have are a few areas with extra fat and skin, but are not bigger than any area.

and yes I appreciate the extremely informative answer from theprincessbride.. thank you. and I actually did not know about the 3 in thing.. that has inspired me to get on it and work those inches off.

I'm 5'5" 132.  Everything I've read puts that height/weight in a size 6. . .well, in pants I'm an 8-10 and in dresses I have to get 4-6.  My shoulders/bust are small for my waist/hip measurement.

Just goes to show everybody is different :)

Bust 35

Waist 27-28, depending on the day/bloating

Hips 40

see that's so weird.. Mountain Bride.. that's what I was talking about .. we have about the same measurements,  but you are a size smaller than me in clothes and I weigh like 12 pounds more than you...I wish sizing for pants were more consistent.. I really want to wear size 6 and eventually maybe 4, but I feel like my build is too big.

Yeah I noticed that too ladyhannah - we have almost the exact same measurements.

I *think* that it also depends on how you like your clothes to fit - I can wear size 10 pants but by 10am they are baggy butt pants (you know how they shrink in the dryer!).  If I go for 8's, they are a perfect fit all day, maybe a little snug when I first put them on but that lasts all of 5 minutes.

It also depends on the designer!  I went shorts shopping and had to decide between one pair that was a 6 and one that was a 10 - they both fit.  Wierd.

Your 12 pounds on me could come from several things: I have really tiny bones and features (my ring size is a 4.5-5.0) . . . so maybe they just weigh less?  You might have more muscle tone than I do as well, yes . . . a pound of muscle is a same as a pound of fat, but the muscle takes up less space and weighs more mass-wise.

It could be anything.  So wierd!

probably muscle. and bone size.. my bones are not so tiny.. I'd say I have a medium frame.
