So, you've got, or are in the process of buying, your first home together.

What project are you most excited to start?  Aside from unpacking, of course.  ;)

Tell us all about it!

We are still in the process of looking right now.... its super hard to find that perfect house :) We would love to buy an older craftsman style home, but we are finding that most of them in our price range and way to small or else have some weird newer additions that add in space but don't match the original character of the house :(

How did everyone search for their first home? we have a real estate agent and I look on craigslist all of the time.... but other than that we really have no idea how to look.

We're in the process of closing right now.  We've been looking since March!

Kristinkay, we also went with a realtor and the best advice she had for us was to make a list of what we "had" to have and what we would "love" to have.  From that list we then made decisons like, ok the kitchen needs tile, which we can eventually do on our own as opposed to wanting a three car gargage right away which is harder to add on later.  The list helped a LOT!  We were able to walk into houses and if it didn't have the three top things we had to have, we walked back out!  :)

It's really frustrating, but we finally found the house we love.

Also, keep in mind school districts and taxes!  Huge deal breaker in our case.

We closed on our first home in May, so just a few weeks before our wedding. You can imagine how busy we were! The closing process took longer than we thought, but we are so happy to have our first home.

KK-we did a lot of looking on realtor.com We found that it was very easy to find ones we liked on there and then our realtor would set up a time to go see it. At first she was sending us all these pictures of homes and they just weren't our style. So we foudn it much easier to look at pics online ourselves

I second realtor.com.  It's amazing and up-to-date.  Also check your realtors site.  www.trulia.com is a great one as well.  (We found it not always up-to-date) but it has nice features.

Here is our house. We just moved in last October. Finding the right house took a LOT of looking online. The MLS was great! We actually only looked at 10 houses in person, but we knew exactly what we wanted because we had done so much research. It has been really exciting owning our own place. We have painted about 75% of the inside and have done a few other upgrades. Had to fix a bathroom leak (which was due to poor caulking) but otherwise, it's great!

Here is our house photo 813028-1

Good luck to all of you with the house hunt. It is so worth it once you are in a place of your own! :)

Supersara:   I LOVE your house.  It is beautiful!  We will start looking this fall, but prices are still up in the northeast..... hard to find good buys.  Hopefully, with time, we will find a house.

Good luck everyone with your new homes!!!

We are renting our very first home together! I am excited! Its so cute! We are responsible for it like its our own-due to the owners are on the other sided of the country and are military as well. So we are treating it like its our own! I will be very excited to decorate- it will be a slow process. Also- we kinda have to decorate in a fashion that can be moved and look good in any house-due to lots of military moving!
