I'm sure y'all are tired of me asking for honeymoon recommendations... but DH and I have finally decided on a week in Maui and we're discussing hotels. A lot of PWers recommended the Westin. Which, at first, was out of our price range. But, I found a package that puts it well within our budget (yay!)

Just had a question... how different are the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas from the Westin Resort & Spa? On the Westin's website and many other places I've looked, the Villas are more expensive. Thru this deal I found, it's about $20 cheaper.

I've just finished reading Maui Revealed and they only review the Westin Resort & Spa, no mention of the Villas. (fantastic book by the way, thanks so much for recommending it!) I wish those writers wrote books about the Caribbean.

Has anyone stayed at both, or either, and can offer some opinions?

Thank you!!!

I think the House of Bliss is worth a night... Especially if you have a larger party of people you are traveling with http://www.hawaiibliss.com/ the price is $520 a night for the main house and $185 a night for the cottage... I think it holds up to 20 comfortably so this is for traveling in groups for sure. I live next store...

Road to Hana

Sunday Trip to Hana photo 51288-4

The road to Hana is beautiful and long. You will be coming from the West Maui’s and want to begin early in the day to avoid the traffic. If you leave around 7:30 am you should make good time. There are several stops along the way that may be of some interest.

Mana Foods in Paia has good traveling snacks and prepared foods…. Take a right at the traffic light in Paia and Mana Foods will be on your left. They open at 8:00 am. Café De Amis is a fun, sweet little place to eat in Paia as well just across from Mana Foods.

Twin Falls

Twin Falls Twin Falls photo 51289-1

Twin Falls just after mile marker #2 on the Mountain side of the road has a nice juice stand and quick waterfalls halfway across the field go to the left and there will be a waterfall right there.

Bamboo Forest between the 6 and 7 mile markers

After that stop head down the highway's curvy windys start there will be a place to park on the right hand side of the road with an old small fence right before mile marker #7. Walk over the fence and follow the path down to a small plank and cross a ravine keep following the path down across the river and go left even with the river heading back towards the river y next stop the Bamboo Forest, just after the and follow the path along the river up to a small waterfall and swimming hole. Go left past the waterfall and up a little path up to the second waterfall. To get to the third waterfall you will climb a rope up the cliff behind the second waterfall. Follow the river until you see a 50 to 100 feet ravine and swim to the third water fall. You may want to do this trip to the Bamboo Forrest on a whole day of its own.

continue to follow the road to Hana until you get to the road to the Lava Tubes in Hana, two roads before the Hana Airport Road. If you see the airport road, turn around and go back two roads. Follow the Lava Tube road to the end, park walk towards the ocean and walk the coast the Blue Pool, known as Heleleikeoha Falls,   will be right next to the ocean. The day I went to the Blue Pool it was crystal clear and so beautiful.

Go back to the Hana Highway and head towards Hana again for Red Sands Beach,  also known as Kaihalulu  Beach .  When you get to town go left at the ball field, go right at the T in the road and park just outside the hotel next to the grassy field. Walk across the grassy field and go the right to follow the small path along the top of the cliff side. Walk all the way to, the obvious Red Sands Beach , my first time I did not go far enough. The water is clear and the beach very peaceful.

Just outside of Hana is Hamoa Beach, take you’re first left down an obvious road and sit by a nice beach for a moment, to stretch and enjoy a quick swim.

 Seven Sacred Pools

Hamoa Beach Just outside photo 51292-3

If you feel like going to the seven sacred pools it is beautiful, but farther, which makes the trip back longer.  DIRECTIONS to Seven Sacred Pools:
Take Highway 30 to Hana which turns into Highway 31 after Hana. The parking lot is located just past Mile Marker #42 on the ocean side of the road. 9.1 miles past Hana is the Oheo Gulch, or
“Seven Sacred Pools”.

On the way back enjoy the drive, it’s so beautiful.

Mama’s Fish House for Diner

Make reservations for Mama’s Fish House for dinner 808 579 8488. Mama’s fish house is on the ocean side and has a little boat on the side of the road at the entrance. The beach is beautiful and the food delicious. You will be getting back late and able to sleep in the next day and just relax on the West Maui Beaches.
