a "dj" friend of ours has started a business and sent me a price sheet. He informed me since we are past buddies he'd cut me a deal..just let him know what I can pay/want to pay and we can work on it.

His rate is $900 for 6 hours..which is WAY out of our budget(I don't know what dj's cost in IL...not chicago western)...but I also don't want to low ball him making a number to offer.

He's an awesome modern dj(dj'd at a popular club for like 5 years)..so I really want him...and luckily he has only that weekend open...what do you think I should send him since it's out of my budget...I don't want to make an offer too high that is a bit pricey for us...because he may have taken something lower lol.

what did/are you paying or what do you think i should offer?

Are Dj is $995 for unlimited which includes the light trees and then we're spending another $200 for uplighting on the back wall of the venue. So a total of $1195. They were one of the cheaper DJ's in the area (Cincinnati) and we just decided to go with them so we didn't have to worry about paying for extra hours since we have our venue until we're ready to leave. All the other DJ's I met with wanted at least $900 for 5 hours so I guess maybe that is normal. The one company wanted $1500 for 5 hours and I about died. I know it's tough because they are so expensive  and your on a budget because I was in the same situation :(

Maybe you could just talk to him and see how low he would be willing to go for you?

Okay...our DJ was $2800 including the uplighting, gobo on the floor, light truss, DJ and an MC who ran the entire evening according to a timeline.  He was right on the whole evening.

Ours was $100 per hour. He was a friend though so we paid $600 for 8 hours (1 hour of which was set-up time).

We'll be paying $500 for six hours.  Definitely the best price by far, though.  Most I found quoted me around 900-1200+

okay....so if I give him examples of what some of you girls paid around $600..would I be low balling him..he said since I'm a friend we'd work something out in our budget...$600 is like maxing it out lol

Ours was $1000 for 5 hours - he was excellent!
