So, you teach. . .what does FI/DH do?

I remember in high school a couple of teachers that had been married several years.  She was the English teacher, and he taught P.E. . .and they were pretty eccentric!  Example: she would NEVER wear the same outfit twice in a row in one school year. . .seriously. . .hehehe!  But I can't imagine going to work at the same High school with my husband!

DH and I are complete opposite!  I'm a music teacher, he's a mining engineer.

Do you find that having opposite, or the same careers type affects your relationship a certain way?

We met while I was still working on my undergrad in Liberal Studies and FI was working as a Health & Wellness director at our gym. He was also going to school in the evenings for his Master's in Kinesiology. Since then, I have graduated and have been teaching Kindergarten for 3 years. He quit working 3 years ago to begin his Dr. in Physical Therapy. He graduates in June of next year and we will marry 2 months later.

I would say that yes our "jobs" affect our relationship. We both do jobs that help people. Neither of us could ever be good lawyers or sales people--we're just not cut out for it. I think that the main aspects that make up our personalities and make us connect are also the same traits that have lead us to our respective occupations.

Well, and FI's choice 3 years ago to quit school directly affected our relationship in that we have delayed getting married for 3 years. It's been a long haul (we will have been dating for 6 years and engaged for 1 yr 9 months when we marry), but worth it. I coudn't imagine sharing my life with any other man and I couldn't imagine not being a part of his life & family.

Being a teacher is one of the things that attracted my husband to me! He said it takes a special person to teach (especially in the special ed. field, which is where I am) and he has a lot of admiration for teachers!

Anyway, my husband's official title is business analyst and project manager for a financial firm. I have no clue what that really means! I know he figures out how to do or fix things, and tells people how to do/fix it!

I think we're both in jobs that are perfect for us and usually it has a great effect on our relationship! It becomes a problem when I have a tough school year, which happened a few years ago and I was so crabby and stressed all the time, or when he is bogged down with projects and working 12+ hours a day! That's really hard, but we get through it!

FI is a graphic designer, i always try to convince him to teach because of the great hours and benefits but he just isnt into it, and we all know you have to love it.

I'm not actually a teacher, I'm an educational aide at a high school.  My sweetie works at a power plant.  The job itself doesn't really affect our relationship, but his schedule is insane.  At least once a week, he changes from day shift to night shift or night shift to day shift.  He works 12 hr shifts and sometimes they turn those into 16 hr shifts with no warning.  Poor guy never gets adjusted to a sleep schedule.  :(

My fiance is a ph.d student in finance, and wants to be a professor. :)  I wanted to be a professor for a long time too, but grad school was more BS than I could stomach.  :P  So different, but similar.

FI is harvest operations manager at a raspberry and blueberry farm...who would have thought I would move away from Montana to go to college and get out of the boonies and then end up marrying a farmer :P (PS I love my roots, I was just ready for some "city living")

my dh is an attorney - but I work with two married couples :) one of the couples actually met while not working at the same school when she left our school to go teach somewhere else, and he took over her classroom and read through all of the notes she left for the new teacher and thought she was totally charming, smart, organized and funny via her class notes. Another teacher at the school set them up - and then they got married, and she moved back to our school. Such an adorable story!
