Marie Antoinette must have been on Crack when she said, "Ooh...let them eat cake!" Are you kidding me? At $4 a slice that might be All my guests get to eat at this wedding! I must've called 12 places today and they were all like, "Uh, yeah, that's gonna run you about...$600". Gulp! (And that's not including decoration, delivery...)

I even tried going the cheapo route and calling grocery stores, Walmarts, and Sam's. Which works if you want SHEET CAKE with Cool Whip icing. But, if you were thinking of something a bit more fancy, personal, elegant- you're out of luck sister.
(by fancy I mean 3-tiered, square shaped, white cake with butter cream frosting, and raspberry filling)

So, tomorrow I am biting the bullet and going to a cake tasting with one of my girlfriends who has promised to make sure I come away with my wallet intact. (I'm a total sucker in person- despite my loud, and somewhat cranky writing persona).

Honestly,I'm just freaked about how expensive this wedding is getting. Anyone know where I can get cakes in Houston for closer to $2.50 a slice?

I'm dreading even starting that search! I think all big city bakers really tend to gouge their prices a bit.

You can opt for a "stunt" cake and have sheet cakes out back..a lot of cake companies have some cakes on display that you can rent and have a tiny little one that you can cut into..and then you have your caterer with the sheets in the back..they'll NEVER know.. =) GL!

Are you from Houston? Alot of girls use Cakes by Gina and are very happy with them. Also try HEB, their cake is TO.DIE.FOR and they do weddings.

Try timtations he is very reasonable and is about $3/slice, but he will work with ANY budget. He makes beautiful cakes.
